I've recently bought 5x plus in Taiwan, now I have troubles with updating software (Garmin connect and express don't see update to version 5 (tried on 2 PCs and smartphone). Manual installation of 4.74 beta doesn't have an effect as well (in watch info version 4.2 shown). Did anybody have similar issue?

Everyone, 5.10 software should be available to everyone at this time. If no one is getting the software update on their APAC device, I need to know.

5.1 installed on Fenix 5S Plus APAC model. Like the other members above, Spotify is not yet available in the store (device not compatible)

So does Spotify need to add the app or Garmin? I'm eagerly awaiting this feature on APAC
  • 5.10 is supposed to give Garmin Support to APAC devices correct? I just bought this watch for spotify and im still unable to download spotify even after software update to 5.10
Garmin this is not right. This is false advertising!

So is APAC device not going to be able to stream spotify ever? Nice tricking your customer and im stuck with it now
  • This link clearly stats that spotify is supported in apac version .

    https://www8.garmin.com/support/down...s.jsp?id=14169

but unfortunately it is not working !

The problem is probably in the Manifest file of Spotify app in Connect IQ.

    https://developer.garmin.com/connect-iq/developer-tools/manifest-file

This XML file indicates which products are supported by the app. The last modified date for the app in Connect IQ shows 3/10/18, before APAC devices received the 5.10 firmware (which is a pre-requisite for Spotify). As a result it is likely that Spotify developer couldn't have added the APAC products id in the manifest when they uploaded the app. I've contacted them (through the contact developer form) to ask them to update the manifest. If someone here have direct access to their development team, it will be faster to ask them directly. Let's wait and see...
  • That's kind of what's happening but not really. For a given CIQ SDK (the latest is 3.0.3), there's a list of devices and their current FW level and CIQ level. When an app gets packaged for the store, that list is used to build the ".iq" file, which itself has a whole different manifest.xml (it's a greatly expanded one based on what the developer has). So the "fix" will be to build with the 3.0.4 SDK when it's released, which will likely be very soon based on this issue. This isn't uncommon when it comes to APAC devices, and I've seen it with my own apps.

Thanks Jim, that makes sense. I haven't developed apps on this (yet?), thanks for the additional info. So, let's wait SDK 3.0.4 then Spotify new build...

Jim (and others), SDK 3.0.4 was released yesterday. And a new version of Spotify is now visible on the store for APAC devices. Happy listening everyone.
  • Yes, I noticed the change in the FW/CIQ level for the APAC plus devices in the 3.0.4 SDK and figured the app would be updates very quickly. I've been using CIQ for quite some time now, and and as I said, have seen before. My Apps
  • Confirmed. Spotify app successfully added for APAC version and in working state. However, remote controls on my Jaybird freedom not working for skipping tracks.

Anyway big thank you for adding Spotify Garmin !
