  • HRM-RUN Running dynamics, issue resolved.
  • Now I've done some runs with the new GPS FW 2.23 and 2.24.
I see massive improvements in regards to speed measuring, corner cutting and general GPS performance.

The three runs I've done is the best gps-tracks I've generated with a Garmin GPS unit. I need to go back to my time with suunto ambit 3 to have similar tracks, but don't think that they were that good. I actually left my footpods at home today and even had a decent current tempo indication on the watch.
Previous tested Garmin GPS (305, Fenix 3, Fenix 5) Now: Fenix 5s

After about 48 hours most things still seem to be very promising. The battery seems more stable and even though I haven’t been on an open water swim the GPS has been the best I’ve noticed since receiving this watch. The music connection has also stayed static free while using my AirPods.

My only issue now is that the ohrm has been very unstable by producing large gaps in the chart again. It seemed to be improving in the previous beta but now it’s taken a step back.

    Happy Training everyone

I see absolutely no difference in GPS performance on my reference course.
As we all know, the constellation of the GPS satellites varies from hour to hour and thus the number of visible satellites and their angle.
So any single observation says nothing.

Didn't found improvement in GPS track neither, 1 sec recording, walking and GPS 2.24. When i move between some buildings the track is a crazy drunk...

    Blue: F5 plus.
    Yellow: real walked track.

    It's very simple.
As long as they don't combine the data from the accelerometer (and gyro?), pressure sensor, magnetic compass and GPS, they will never get any higher accuracy.

Take for example the jumps of the GPS track that some users experience.
If they would AT LEAST check the plausibility by comparing the accelerometer and GPS data, they could filter out such events very easily.
But as usually they don't listen :/

Strangely, the device seems to not respect turning notification tones off. I've tried in the iOS app, online via computer and the device itself and they all say off for tone under notifications sound settings. When I receive a notification from my phone I get a tone every time regardless of the setting. It does respect what ever setting I have chosen for vibration however and tone on/off is respected for keys.

The watch/system notification of phone connected/disconnected and move alerts do respect what option is chosen for tones though.

Any way to get this to install on a MBP? Whatever I do I can't get the USB storage to show up in finder on the 5 plus? My 3HR works fine!
  • You must be on a mac. You want to make sure Garmin Express is shutdown (not even running in the background), and then use something like ATP (https://www.android.com/filetransfer/)

Apple doesn't handle generic media devices, as they want to to only buy theirs! :) The 5 plus is a media device (the whole music thing). The 3hr wasn't.

Yup on a Mac, have express shutdown, will try ATP. How annoying it doesn't show as a external storage device!
