Just wanted to give a quick update on v4.65. I installed the update last evening and started an activity after dinner (walk). Nothing fancy, really just testing things out. When I returned, I completed and saved the activity. Shortly thereafter, the 5X+ let me know that I had new activity on Connect through a notification. This was new functionality for me; before I would need to open the Connect app to sync data to Garmin.

Throughout the evening I would periodically check the weather widget to see if data was updating - and it was. I also charged the 5X+ to 100%**.

This morning the weather data was updating. I attempted to connect my Bose SoundSport headset, which took more fiddling that usual. I had to put the headset in pair mode and activate connect on the 5X+. Finally paired. Set off for a run and set a route.

Sadly, the music dropped, but maybe it was better than other times I've used it. My phone was with me and BT was active, but music was streaming from the watch (purposefully to test feature).

Once my run was complete, I opened the Connect app on my iPhone. For some reason I did not see the run on the main "My Day" screen. I hit "Sync". It did not show. Tried a few more times. I went calendar, tapped today, and running activity. After this is it appeared in the main "My Day" screen. Must have been a fluke, but I thought I would mention it. More data is better, yes?

Throughout the day I've been checking the weather widget. It eventually stopped syncing data - the dreaded red icon with exclamation point returned.

I went through re-pairing the 5X+ and after fiddling a bit, the data began to sync, but then it has stopped syncing again.

One thing I have noticed is that the Garmin Connect App on the iPhone will open immediately if the phone and watch are connected and the app is updating in the background. However, if the app opens and you see the person running icon before the screen open, then 100% of the time, the app is not communicating with the watch in the background.

I have tried the various troubleshooting steps - resync, reboot watch, reboot phone, re-pair, etc. etc.

Pretty frustrating ladies and gents. Might be a good idea to give the devs a 5X+ and let them actually use it.

** My current battery usage shows 88% at 12:39PM. 100% at 11PM yesterday, 98% this AM, used BT music, routing, and running (5K) for about 30 mins and not much else. Other than checking to see if data is syncing in Weather App and a few notifications.

EDIT - I removed the Connect App completely from my iPhone. I removed the Bluetooth entry in the BT menu of my phone. Then I paired the watch directly in the BY menu (under available devices) and put in the passcode. Then I installed the connect app from the app store. Once the 5X+ was setup and the watch synced. I opened the weather widget, the widget said to open the app on my phone. I open the app again, re-synced and the weather data was shown.

The app was closed on my phone prior to 1PM. I open the Weather widget *after* 1PM and it showed weather data for 5PM (2PM-5PM) which was a new data point vs. the data at 12Noon. Not sure if that's a valid test, but maybe this means the data is updating without having the app on the phone open. I will try a walk and see if it sends it to connect without having to use the connect app.

Well, after updating itself pretty well for a bit after I re-paired the device, we were back to our old ways again. Twice I witnessed the widget actually update the data after I opened the widget in real time. But after just a few hours, the watch seemed to lose it's connectivity and updates stopped.

I'm not really concerned about the weather app functionality. What I am concerned about is having battery life diminished because the bluetooth is constantly polling, having to open the app to upload activity each time or having to leave the app open. I was leaving the app open for a bit, but that caused the app to become slow and unresponsive.

That is very disappointing. Garmin, please fix the CIQ Date bug. Please.

Looks good so far, assuming there hasn't been any other regression, but please fix the CIQ date bug!

I first reported this bug in 4.61 and I am still receiving emails from the beta team about it with steps to try and rectify it. I have just been asked if it is still present on 4.65. My guess is, Garmin are unaware at just how widespread this bug is so I'd urge affected users to please report it if you haven't already done so for beta 4.65. Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 Plus series you have in the subject line.

Does this mean that there are now two different versions of 4.65, depending on when the user did the download?

    Exactly ...
  • You just download the zip file again and copy the GPS FW update file only onto the watch. Easy. Or is it a problem?

I completely missed that. I guess I'll redownload it and add it...

Not for me. But I imagine the confusion that can arise when people discuss GPS problems and they think they are on the same beta version.
