  • Diamond Like Coating is like diamond: hard !! :-)
"A DLC-finish, for example, will harden your timepiece, making it more resistant to shocks and scratches. The finish will also keep its polish or sheen no matter what kind of abuse you subject it to.
The properties of the carbon coating always depend on who is making it or applying it, but usually consist of a combination of carbon, titanium, and nitrogen that, as made evident by its name, enhances the durability of the watch to a level of diamonds.
DLC coated watches are completely resistant to scratches. A DLC coating is considered the highest quality PVD coating since it is the most durable and the hardest to scratch. Evidently, the DLC coating adds a layer on the watch, which also protects it against elements of regular wear."

Really DLC is a must on titanium as it is strong but often soft. That's why there is not really good knife blade in titanium... But I got a nice mini crowbar made of titanium which is light and strong. ;-)

Now I got a black 5XPlus and like my old 5X, I have not been able to scratch it in normal use and despite getting it banged again many steel equipments (camera, tripod...) Same story for that cheap Chinese titanium band.
Scratchproof is a pleasure on a big watch. :-)

I agree with NemoSandman above. It's really a necessity for Ti. No marks on my DLC yet, except for a small scratch on the band buckle
