Recommended Bluetooth Headphones for 5+

Hi,

Anyone have any BT headphone recommendations for the 5+? Looking for running and cycling. dcrainmaker uses the Skullcandy Method which look decent. I basically don’t want them falling out while I’m moving around and I also want to be able to hear traffic decently. Any other suggestions? Not looking to break the bank.

My previous setup was an iPod shuffle (clip version) with some in earbuds on a wire. But the wire would move around and eventually pull out the bud.

Thanks,
  • Given that others have confirmed that the 5+ plays just fine with a number of other earbuds, it's clearly not the watch that's the problem here.

The watch is definitely the weak link considering devices half as expensive as the 5S+ have worked without any problems at all. I think I'm going to return the 5S+ and get a 5+. Might just pick up some BeatsX at the same time since the 5+ appears to work well with those. If I do so, I'll add to the BeatsX feedback in this thread.

Same. I couldn't convince myself to buy $200 earbuds when they kept dropping out and I'm not going to change my watch just for some music.

Or try to pick up a set of the jabra elite sport, they are true sports earbuds. and since they are already 1y on the market you might be able to pick one up for cheap. They did not drop out at all during my run (urban or openfield) the receiver is on the right and I wear my watch on the left
  • I must take back my previous recommendation of the Skullcandy Method wireless earbuds - using them with the Fenix 5 Plus will FRY them.

Note: I view this as a Skullcandy issue, not a Garmin issue.

  • I have been testing my Bragi Dash Pro with Fenix 5 Plus. Wearing on left hand (during running)- it is non usable - drop-outs every second. When I move to right hand - it is much better, yet not perfect. Anyway - while I love my Bragi Dash Pro in other uses cases - there is no way I can recommend those to be used with Fenix 5 Plus.
  • I'm certainly no expert, having never run with music until I picked up a F5X+, but I picked up the MPOW Flames because they were super cheap and had great reviews. I've run a few time with them and have been very happy. No dropouts at all, and they stay in my ear. The have the little clip that goes behind your ear. Every now and then one ear wiggles lose a little and I just push it back in. It's never fallen out. For $20 and someone who doesn't use them often, they're great.

I took a punt with these but they don't work for me. I'd used the Senso ActivBuds but the music kept dropping. The MPOW Flames were worse. As soon as I started moving, with or without GPS on, they fell to pieces. Looks like I'll have to spend extra.
  • I also own (beside my preferred Anker) the MPow Flames and they work without any drop-outs for me. That's wearing my 5plus (titanium if that should matter) at the left wrist.
  • I have Jaybird Run headphones. The master bud is on the right side. When wearing the watch (5x+) on the left I get occasional drops (depending on environment) while running. When wearing the watch on the right side, closer to the master, I do not experience drops while running.

I do not like running with the watch on my right wrist. I wish Jaybird allowed you to swap the master to the left.
  • I have the Jabra 65T. I spoke to Jabra about the connection issues I’m having when I wear the watch on my left wrist, and mentioned that it works fine for some and not others with the watch on the left. Jabra and I suspect my 65Ts are on spec but they’ve suggested we swap for a new pair as a one time test to see if that makes a difference. I’ll update in a few weeks once the swap is done if the connection is any better with the new pair and watch on my left wrist once I’ve had a test run.
  • What is currently the best mix in terms of connectivity and autonomy (even if at the expense of functionality)? I'm looking for a pair for an upcoming ultra but don't really want to drop $200 on buds that will drop every 30 sec...

BTW: Those reCAPTCHA are super annoying, I need to get through a half dozen of them before being let in.
  • I have the new Plantronics backbeat 3100 https://www.plantronics.com/gb/en/product/backbeat-fit-3100

Completely wireless, very comfortable and allow you to hear the ambient noises around you. No dropouts as you can set which headphone is the main one for connection to your watch. I set the left one.
