Hotkey for Garmin Pay/Wallet?

Hi

It seems we are starting the cycle of "Can I have a hotkey for function XXX or YYY" with the 5X Plus that we've seen on the 5X :)

Is there a way to map a hotkey to open the wallet so I don't have to go through the Controls menu? I could not find it in the relevant settings section so thought maybe this is something I missed.

TIA
  • And while they're at at they could look at fixing the security on the wallet as I find it very hit and miss.

Often whilst in a queue I will try and time it right so that I finish entering the PIN before I get served, however sometimes by the time I have to pay it has timed out. It is then hit or miss as to whether or not I will be asked for my PIN again.

  • I also find this annoying and stresful and it really slows down the payment if I have to input the pin again, which I can not be sure of if needed.

Usually I just leave the pin without the last digit and enter it only just before the payment and prefer my mobile phone for contactless payment if I happen to have it with me.

  • As I have written before: We need a Pause function:

    • While standing in line, open the Wallet.

    • If it wants a PIN, fine. Enter PIN.

    • Press Pause.

    • Wait for your turn to pay.

    • Press Pause again to unpause.
    • Pay

This will remove all stress about timing, and the uncertainty of whether it will require a PIN this time.

I think the PIN thing is more related to your bank/card company. When I enter my pin it stays 'unlocked' for 24 hours. Which is fine, because no-one knows my card is in the phone and i have a limit on the payment amount allowed.

  • I am pretty certain that my bank or card company is not actively involved in my watch's decision of when to demand a PIN. That would require a connection between the watch and the world outside - and since the Wallet works, even if I didn't bring my phone, and before I reach the payment terminal, that is obviously not the case.

Besides that, it doesn't really matter if it was the card company requiring it, or me removing the watch 4 hours before without remembering, or the last PIN entry being 25 hours ago. The main problem here is that there is no way of seeing in advance if you will need to enter a PIN this time. So you have to initiate the Wallet too early, just because this might be one of the occasions where you will have to input a PIN. And then the wallet will probably time out while you wait.

That is bad workflow design, and I have made a suggestion for a better workflow, which is robust to this.

I found that if you have unlocked your wallet and have not taken off your watch (HR still tracking),it won't ask for  24 pin for hours. The moment it can't detect heart rate, it'll ask for pin.

Yes, that is well-known and already described in this thread. But it misses the point.

  • Woohoo it is possible now!!! Had to upgrade to a Fenix 6 for it, but is very handy. Hope that the function also come to the 5 series.

  • +1

I have just received my fenix 5 plus, i opened a new bank account to have a card that worked with garmin pay and then..... It is much easier to use my mobile to pay than my watch! We need the hotkey, and the possibility to disable the passcode. Gpay is so much faster...

  • I really miss this feature, is there a ticket system to suggest new features?
