Descent MK1 Strength Workout Issues

The Descent MK1 is my first Garmin wearable so it's taken a little while to get used to all the functionality. One issue I've found is that when creating a strength workout and trying to send it to the device the Descent MK1 is listed as incompatible. Through other forums I found a work around by adding it to the calendar and sending it to the watch from there.

This obviously isn't ideal when you've spent $2k! However when I start the workout it doesn't have data fields available for the exercise or target so I have no idea what I'm meant to be doing!

Has anyone else experienced this issue or know what I'm doing wrong?
  • I would suggest that you post this in the 5x forum as well as this may be a bit more specific for the Descent forum. I think you’ll have a better chance of a solution.
  • Hello OnYourBike

You should now be able to install strength workouts on the Descent Mk1 using Garmin Connect.

    Hello,

I still have the issue that I can't send strength workouts or cardio workouts to the Descent MK1 using Garmin Connect. If I try to send the training, it shows the Descent MK1 under incompatible devices. I have Firmware 2.50 installed on the Descent MK1.

I am wondering, why this is not working. I understand that the Descent MK1 has the same functionalities and features as the Fenix 5X plus the Dive modes, that's why I bought this watch to replace my sport watch and use it as a dive computer. If that is not the case, I will return the watch, since 1k EUR for a dive computer w/o air integration is much too expensive.

Any ideas, when/whether this issue will be fixed?
  • Hi,

I have got the same problem... I can export some run workouts to my MK1, but I can not see them because I do not have "training" in the menu (it is poorer than the menu of my old F3 HR...)

I also bought this device to replace my old sport watch (F3 HR) and use it as a dice computer, now I feel very disappointed with the purchase,
Obviously, it is not what you expect when you buy a 1k€ Garmin device.

I am thinking of returning the device and changing to Suunto if it is sorted out in a few days.

  • Hi again,

No workouts to be added, no training calendar and I have just realized that when I sync the calendar on Garmin connect with the MK1 the system crashes down.....these bugs must be fix it!!
  • I can confirm that the instructions in the manual do not work. Garmin Descent Mk1 is listed as NOT COMPATIBLE.

I recommend you call Garmin Product Support as you won't get any support from Garmin through the fora.
  • We have removed the past comment due to it being incorrect.

Currently, the Descent does not support Strength Workouts.
  • Here's an inconsistency:

I created a Cardio Workout on Garmin Connect (web). Once I saved it there was an option to Send it to Device. The Mk1 was there as an option but it requires Garmin Express which I don't currently have set up with the Mk1.

No problem, I'll do it with Garmin Connect Mobile (iOS), only the Mk1 is listed as NOT COMPATIBLE.

Are Cardio Workouts supported on the Mk1?
  • Yes, the Descent Mk1 does support Cardio Workouts.

Can you please be consistent? I expected the Descent Mk1 is Fenix 5X + diving functionality. If you look into printed and online manual https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/descentmk1/EN-US/GUID-3AA7B50B-EBE5-4A29-A15A-316849BA9BDB.html there is no sign that strength workout is not supported. If I have known it before, I would probably choose 5X instead because of this. Do you plan to add this functionality? I believe this is a consumer deception...

I am also very upset. Here was a post from an Garmin administrator some weeks ago, which confirmed, that strength training will work and that it is just a software issue. Based on this information I bought the Garmin Descent MK1 instead of the Garmin Fenix 5X. I opened an incident ticket and was just informed, that strength trainings are not supported anymore. Around the same time the post was deleted in this forum and the technical specifications on the website were changes.

This is defently consumer deception and I want to return my Garmin Descent MK1 and get my money back!
