Question about IPC Outbound - Message Delivery

When IPC Outbound is configured for a professional account, how does message routing work from the inReach devices to the outside world?

Do all messages whether SMS or email simply get routed to the configured web service and then that web service takes all responsibility for further delivery of the message?  Or is it basically a carbon copy - it goes to the web service and still gets delivered by Garmin to the email and SMS destinations?

Also, same question but with respect to SOS/GEOS?  If IPC Outbound is configured do messages to/from GEOS via SOS function and back-and-forth with GEOS get routed directly at Garmin instead of routed to IPC Outbound web service?

Thanks!

  • Thank you for your question.

When IPC is enabled we do not turn-off any other aspects of messaging.  We will send to your Web Service the Device Outbound Traffic and send emails/SMS/Social Media/Tracking etc. as per usual for any assigned user on a Professional account.

SOS messages go via direct IP to GEOS and Garmin.  IPC has no bearing on those messages.  They will also get sent to the Web Service setup for IPC (so the Organization that has the account gets notified).  But GEOS will monitor and respond to the emergency as they would for a non-IPC enabled account.
