I'm having the same issue right now. It worked fine yesterday evening, after I just set up my device. Now it's crashing my device which is a 66s. I just bought my 66s so I hope it's an issue with the servor and not my device and is just temporary. I saw other recent posts about this issue online. Hopefully it will start working again soon. Maybe I can send error logs too Ill have to figure out how to do that.
If your device crashes, there should be an "err.log" file in the debug folder of your device (Garmin>debug). Strange that it has worked yesterday evening for you. I think, it is more a device sw issues as a server issue...
But I haven´t tried it for awhile until today.
My 66i also crashes sometimes, if I only scroll through the menu. Haven’t recognized a system (yet). Haven’t added any data/maps recently.
Perhaps sthe same like this: (+) GPSMAP 66i - Suddenly turns off - GPSMAP 66i - inReach - Garmin Forums
My device is not usable, every few minutes a crash.
Had the same on mine. Tried to download a Birdseye map, crashed the 66i like yours and got into a boot loop (i.e. would boot and crash 5 secs later).
I erased the Birdseye map and it stopped, but any attempt to open the Birdseye app would retrigger the boot loop. I ended up doing a full reset of the device.
66i on 8.80 (new device - it's the only version I have had - Birdseye crashed on first use). I am not touching Birdseye anytime soon...
. I ended up doing a full reset of the device.
After a full reset, is there a renew (activation) of the inReach contract in the Explore settings necessary?
You do NOT need to repeat the registration of the device at explore.garmin.com. You DO need to repeat the outdoor portion of the activation.
When you first power up after a full reset, the device will prompt you to "activate" or "skip activation". Choose Activate. Take the device outside and wait for the activation sequence to complete. Ignore any screens which tell you to do something at the web site.
The (re-)activation went smoothly as mentioned. However, I had to do things like reorganize icons, re-add most of the settings... I haven't found a way to save those. If this was possible (is it?), I would give Birdseye another go. In the meantime, I am going for stability.
Before I try a master reset, I will wait for a Garmin reaction. I wrote to 4 Garmin sources, but no reactions so far (and only one day gone). Will wait...
If you know what you are doing, it is possible to mount the device as a removable USB drive, save some of the configuration files, dismount the device, reset it, and then mount/restore configuration files/dismount. Given how infrequently I have to do a reset, I have never found it worth the effort and do not actually know which files are involved.
A master reset solved my crash problem- no crashes anymore (so far). But my Explore app sync fails every time. Have sent logs to the Explore/66i team to investigate.
