R10 Approach will not provide data despite the green light

I power it on and check in the Garmin Golf app that the device is synced. I've callibrared it, removed it from my devices and re added it. I've cleared it from Bluetooth devices and re-paired it. Every time it says it's in standby mode.. I press the button to "wake up" - nothing. Literally about to throw it off a cliff. Why is it so freakin hard to just turn on and go?????

  • Well, this issue is occurring again in the IOS version 2.12.1.1 (even though the Apple store says 2.12.1) when I first use the Garmin app distance range.  If I end the session & restart the range, I'll see the stats.  I can't say the restart always correct the problem, and I don't plan to spend time troubleshooting this.  I see there is now a newer version for Android - 2.12.4.  Will there be a newer IOS version ?

  • If someone provides something that is not fit for purpose, then it's not "a bit much" to expect a refund.

Australian consumer law is pretty clear about our protections.

Providing a device that is buggy and requires constant reinstallation of applications is not suitable.

I'm starting the process for a refund today.

  • Garmin actively looks into any reports of issues, and we release updates accordingly from our end.

Occasionally, some issues may take more time to get an issue resolved, compared to others...as we investigate extensively to ensure we have a full understanding of the issue based on reports from our users. We are constantly working to make our products the best versions of themselves through continuous development, and updates.

Hopefully you have reached out our Garmin office in Australia to discuss your concerns with the R10, as you may be aware that contacting us has resulted in good support in the past.

The Approach R10 for our users that have used the device longer than a month or two...are able to enjoy radar simulation from home with features that traditionally may have been unobtainable due to high cost from other brands.

  • Do you have any other software you use the R10 with? like Awesome golf? I had this issue pop up last night, again, and did the fix and it worked but i'm part of some other golf sim boards and there is almost no chatter about this issue despite quite a few people that have an R10. I think most people are using AG, E6, or GSPro with their R10.

I'm starting to think this is an issue with Garmin Golf and not the R10 directly.

  • This problem just started happening to me recently.  I can re-create (can't guarantee it always will or if it was just coincidence) it by having my weather settings set to local, then modify the elevation, humidity, & temperature. I recently began trying my local weather settings. I used to set it to custom weather so I don't know if this bug has always been there or if it was introduced with the recent IOS versions. If I start the range & don't modify the local weather settings, it seems to work fine.  So, I can eventually get the range stats to display, but it should work the first time. I'm just not going to a lot of spend time investigating this. I do use E6, but E6 does not provide club head data. I can't justify the cost of Awesome Golf. If I was younger & owned a house I would, but I'm a senior & may not have a space for a golf simulator when I eventually move to my next rental.  The software probably shouldn't allow changes to the local weather settings & only allow the custom settings to be modified if that is the problem.

  • So where is the release note which list the bugs corrected?

  • All issues are related to the Garmin Golf App.

The R10 unit is working just fine, sending the data it measures, and there has been no changes in firmware for this for several months. Last change was due to reading RCT balls.

And since the R10 is working just fine, it will work with other software like Awesome Golf, E6 and GS Pro.

Just be aware that GS Pro is not supported by Garmin, yet.

The Garmin Golf App is ok for most users, provided You find a version that works for Your mobile device and turn off auto update...

  • I agree with you on the cost of Awesome Golf and you have valid reasons not to get it. I'm planning to get it but worried i'll buy it then upgrade to the next tier of LM and my investment will be wasted. For what it's worth Awesome Golf is more accurate and has a superior layout for practice than the garmin golf app, but if you are only using the driving range and no paying the garmin sub it's probably not worth it.

I'm going to try the custom weather settings as i use those a lot since i'm hitting late at night and the temps have dipped quite a bit.

  • I'm currently on version 2.12.5 I just recently tried to use my garmin after about 2-3 weeks since I last played with it. All of a sudden it just stop reading my shot data.
