Distances a third of what they should be.

I have just set up my golf sim. My garage is only 8' high but I am short so have lots of room for hybrids down. While I am not yet used to swinging in a confined spaqce and my swing is therefore terrible my distances are way off. 70 yards is probably the longest I have had and I have hit three woods and lots of three hybrids. I hit my three hybrid 180 yds normally.

I am  an experienced golfer and am now up to a 10 handicap now due to age. I have excellent distance control on the course especially with short irons. Would interference alone cause this. I have iron shots where it reads the carry in feet they are so short.

I have shut off my projector and put sheets over the concrete between the R10 and my hitting mat. No improvement.

  • My response above is specifically addressing the concern User 2174137 stated was occurring, per the topic of this post to offer some additional information on general factors to consider if concerns with accuracy arise.

The user who created this post is not referencing Awesome golf distances as the basis of the concern or comparison. I would be happy to provide a verified response to a thread addressing the specific topic you, and User 4312627 mentioned above in this thread, or feel free to create a new thread specific 3rd party app metrics, and metrics displaying in the Garmin Golf app.

This way we avoid confusion from other users who would like to discuss concerns with specific topics on R10 accuracy in terms of what they are experiencing when using one of the 3rd party app options vs. Garmin Golf app sessions.

    Thanks!

  • Hi.

Yes I understand this, but when users are complaining about short distances, maybe it also is relevant that the Garmin Golf app is known to do just that?

When it comes to the opening post I kind of agree that the difference there is too big to be the golf app alone. But such variations should be easy to spot the reason for, it's just to compare a short shot wiyh a normal shot.

Which also brings me to the irritating lack of information when ppl are posting issues.

My driver is short, what is wrong makes is not exactly easy to tell why.

  • I have solved the problem. I sent back the Garmin and ordered Skytrak - a  lot more money and has it's own issues but is more reliable out of the box. I am a fan of Garmin owning three of their land GPS devices, a S60 watch for golf and a marine GPS

  • I had to adjust the Garmin app climate settings so I could match the Awesome Golf carry distances. It wasn't perfect because one setting wasn't best for all clubs, but I found a setting that was a good compromise. So, I agree that it might have more to do with the algorithms. Because of that, I'd appreciate it if my custom climate settings could be saved as well as the Ball to R10 distance.  Custom climate settings are not saved on Android or IOS. Ball to R10 is saved on Android & not IOS. My other complaint is I have to leave a session (range or HTH) to re-calibrate the R10.  Sometimes I have to move the R10 around & I don't know if doing that requires the R10 to be re-calibrated.

  • Yean, and to your point it can sometimes be less straightforward when figuring out what is causing data that seems inaccurate, after the common suggestions have then been considered, and the possible cannot be determined, or becomes more difficult to assess, which then we often proceed with a support approach through myself, or through a member of our Golf support team.

I personally have been seeing lower carry distance with my 6 and 7 irons in the past few months, but only by around 20-30 yards. Being located in the Midwest region of the US, we have seasonal golf, so I am getting nowhere near the repetition I normally get during golf season here. I have experienced this prior to using the R10/G80 radar use..so for me the decrease in distance for my situation is typical, so this is more due to me and is more straightforward to figure out.

  • Why not start your own topic or own forum with all your knowledge. Chances are someone might care about your perception but it is not the topic I started. Thus I have spent three times the money while you are hijacking my thread.

  • The reason I am commenting is because I provide assistance as a Garmin Golf associate, along with my role as forum moderator for posts regarding Garmin Golf devices.

So periodically, I will comment in the thread proving further information, as I did on your post here.

Discussions on any post are open to our forum users per the Garmin Forums Terms of Use

I will also converse here as a golfer myself that uses these products, so my comments will not always be information intensive.

Hopefully that offer some clarification, and feel free to reach out if I can be of assistance.

  • Hijacked Your thread?

I tried to tell You that distances are basically a product of ball speed and launch angle.

So by finding out which one, or both, were terribly wrong, it should be fairly easy to find out the root cause of Your issue.

Next comment from You were that You had replaced it with Skytrak.

So Skytrak forum is probably more relevant for You now?
