Garmin Map Updater v3.1.20 does not work with Windows 8.

After installing New Windows 8 Pro upgrade from Windows 7 Pro the Garmin Map updater stopped working. I uninstalled it then tried to re install it.

Windows 8 gives error message when trying to install it:
An unexpected error has occurred and the program must close. If you continue to experience this please contact Garmin Customer Support.

It never gives an error code or what the error is. I looked on Garmin website for a better version or fix for this issue - cant find one.

    Any thought anyone???

Thanks for any and all help.

I've the same problem (and the same message - in dutch...), but with windows 7 (64 bit). MapUpdater recognises my nuvi but after clicking "I accept bla bla..." the message appears many times. My last update was about a year ago on the same system. Something wrong with mapUpdater 3.1.20??

I can not get the map to update with windows 7 its a new device Garmin nuvi 2505 so I cant use it at all-It just keeps opening multiple windows saying An unexpected error has occurred Blah blah blah and then closes when you click to stop it.

I'm having the same problem with Windows 7 - GarminMapUpdater cannot find the remote server.

From what I've found out it seems to affect some people and not others - is very machine specific - and so far I have not been able to find an answer to the problem.

It works fine on my Windows 7 (64bit) PC and also runs on my Windows 8 (64bit) laptop, only problem is that the Zumo 550 isn't recognised by the software when plugged in.

Is Garmin Communicator plug-in installed? Does it recognise your Zumo?

GarminMapUpdater, like some other Garmin .NET applications, can have issues on some machines while others running the exact same OS have no problems.

For example on my Win7 x64 machine versions of GarminMapUpdater after 3.0.11 won't recognize my device (i.e. the same issue you're having). I found a copy of 3.0.11 using Google. I no longer have the link for that but do have a copy of 3.0.11 saved.
