  • Garmin replaced my Edge

i have owned an Edge 1000 for about 4 years and it has performed almost flawlessly on all manner of rides under all conditions encountered - and with all software updates installed. I did have several “minor” issues popping up occasionally but these invariably turned out to be user errors and I never had to do a factory reset. However, recently I found I couldn’t turn the unit off as the power button had broken. I used a pen to actuate the underlying switch. From reading this forum, I understand this is not an uncommon occurrence.

I was going to fix it myself using one of the several methods posted on Youtube but on a whim I emailed Garmin support. Not expecting to hear anything I made plans for an alternative (iPhone) but WOW, the very next morning I had an email from Michael who wrote that Garmin would replace my unit at no expense and included an RMA and shipping instructions that I promptly followed the very next day.

It took about 3 weeks but I now have a beautiful “refurbished” Edge 1000. The case was obviously new with no scratches and a temporary display protector. It didn’t come in a box rather was wrapped in bubble wrap. After 3 rides so far it has worked perfectly. My only cost was ~$5 for me to send the unit to Garmin.

Why I had a different experience than every other poster to this forum is an enigma.

I've always found Garmin to be good in this respect when folks make a valid case
Currently own Drive 50LMT-D, Nuvi 2508LMT-D, Nuvi 1490LMT, Nuvi 1310, Montana 650T, Etrex 20, and use Basecamp, OSM mapping
Previously owned Etrex Legend H, Mio Navman and used Mapsource
(please note that I am not employed by Garmin, but am a long term user of Garmin software and hardware)
