Explore Website Not Displaying Waypoint Locations and Tracks

I have started to use the Garmin Explore website but it seems absolutely useless.

I have four waypoints that have synced to the explore web account.  When I click on a waypoint, a map is opened where the waypoint "should" be but no Flag is shown...just a map of an area.

I have tried all of the different map layers, but can't get the data to appear.

I have selected "Clear All Filters" but still can't get things to appear.

The same thing happens with Courses.  However, I am able to see tracks.

Is there some setting that I am not aware of that needs to be selected to actually display waypoints and courses from my library on the maps when they are selected?

  • In the Library section, find the Waypoints folder. Make sure the "eye" doesn't have a line through it. If it does, click it to remove the line making the waypoints visible.

If the waypoints are part of a particular Collection, make sure the "eye" for that Collection is also not lined through.

  • The eye does not have a line through it.

I toggled the line on and off, but it still did not appear.

  • Make sure you are synching everything when you synch.  Look under "Plans and Devices" page in the Explore website.  On that page, under "Synch", you should see a red "Collections>".  Click on that and make sure "Synch Everything" is selected.

I don't know what app you may have.  If you have Explore app, there is a similar setting under "Devices", tap your device, and then tap "Synch Settings".  Make sure "Synch Everything" is selected.  If you don't have Explore app, you'll have to see if there is something similar on your app.

  • My question is regarding viewing the waypoints with the web interface.  Devices, device syncing and mobile apps are irrelevant.

Apologies if my question was worded incorrectly.

  • You wrote, "I have four waypoints that have synced to the explore web account."

I wanted to ensure the waypoints have actually synced.  If they have, they should show up in your web Library.

If they are not in your web Library, then you have a synch problem.

If they are in your web Library, make sure the Waypoint Folder eye, the Library eye, the Collection eye and the associated collection eyes are not lined out. If the waypoints are not in a collection, make sure the Unorganized folder's eye is not lined out. To simplify, make sure no eyes are lined out.

If none of those are lined out, then you may have a Map Filter set. At the top of the Library, it should say "Map Filters (off)".  If it doesn't, click on it to open it, and click on the "Clear Filters" box. You may want to do this even if it says that filters are off.

My waypoints are showing normally on the website, so the problem isn't a broad website problem.

If the waypoints are in the Library, eyes are all open, and filters cleared, I think you've done everything a User can do. If problem persists  contact Garmin support.

  • Thanks.  The waypoints are in the library, they eyes are open and filters are off.  I will contact Garmin.

  • You're welcome, sorry I couldn't provide better assistance. I hope you find success with Garmin.

  • Yeah, you got that just about right. It's utter crap. I've suddenly had all of my tracks unable to be displayed. Everything is toggled visible, but nothing is showing. I can't believe the kind of money I've spent on Garmin GPS units and software over the decades and it's still total crapware. I recently purchased a Zumo XT hoping things had gotten better, but nope. Still the same poorly written interfaces and software, just now it's in the cloud so it's even more susceptible to random server failures.

  • @kafolske, you seem to know what you're doing, maybe list the browser and version that you're using?  I use Chrome mostly, and the Explore site has worked almost perfectly for me...way better than I would expect, given everything it does.  I do a lot with it, too.

Also, if you manually add a waypoint on the Explore site, does that work?  I usually use the app or a device for that, but I tried it and it worked just fine for me.

Maybe show a screenshot of the browser window with a waypoint on the left panel, and showing the lat/lon but no waypoint on the map?

Lastly, have you tried clearing browser cache & cookies?  Maybe you got unlucky somewhere...as you likely know, that's SOP for hunting down these kinds of issues.

  • I'm using Google Chrome 103.0.5060.114 under Debian Linux 12. The explorer site used to work for me. I've even tried it in Incognito mode (plug-ins disabled). It used to work, but currently it's just not showing tracks. It'll show waypoints, but I have a collection of five tracks that are an ADV ride around the Olympic Peninsula and none for the tracks are now showing. I also tried Chrome under Windows 10, and same thing. Everything is set to show (tracks, routes, waypoints, etc). It's like the collection just corrupted. I'll try deleting it and re-importing. But even if that fixes is, it makes me wary to create rides and rely on the Explorer site.
