4 million steps?

So Garmin Connect thinks I did over 4 million steps today. My vivosmart and says only 11,000.Don't know what happened but i cant find any way to delete today's misinformation, which kind of skews my averages a bit. Any way to correct this? This on the mobile app as well, so it's obviously a server side error.

Here's an image of my steps in Garmin Connect. The 26 miles is from a bike ride today.
  • I would start by clearing the cache in your browser and, if that doesn't work, I think you'll need to call support. What about the previous days? Do they make sense? The details that are cutoff seem to point to an 11,000 step day also.
BTW, what's your auto-goal after this? LOL.

    Also: 4,391,368 / 8,096 = 1? Can Garmin count to potato?

My auto-goal today is 8419. so it obviously only took into account my 11,000 step day. Although my daily average steps is now 164,813.

I found another thread over in troubleshooting, where someone else had this problem as well. The common thread in both our errors is that we both went on a 20 mile bike ride.

I'm using a vivosmart with an edge 810 both paired with phone at the same time, and I'm using the Garmin magnetless speed and cadence sensors. This was the first time I went for a ride after the vivosmart upgraded to 3.50. Now that would seem like the new firmware might have caused this except the only place I see the error is in Garmin Connect and mobile. All the other calculations are in line with an 11,00 step day.

I've attached another shot with my activities, somehow its the total steps that are just out of line. As you can see it's 4 million steps, 390 calories and 5.5miles.

Happened to me as well, also after a ride with the new magnet-less speed/cadence sensors. Although, oddly, not my first ride with them. Very odd indeed.

This also happened to me on Sunday 16th, I had done a 30 mile ride that day and it credited me with 4.5 million steps, a host of new badges and this week I'm in some ridiculous challenge, but my daily goal is still about the same as previously.

Vivosmart with bike sensor on hub of front wheel - magnetless ?

I went for a ride yesterday and it didn't happen this time. I opened a support ticket on this, so far just a couple of emails exchanged. All I really want is just the ability to wipe out that days data, it's looking like that's a bit difficult to do on their end.
  • I regularly do 40+Km rides wearing my vivosmart. I use a forerunner 305 to record the activity. I also have the GC30 garmin cadence sensor.

I've never had this step issue. I typically count about 900 steps per hour of cycling thanks to the wonderful roads in Montreal.

Did you telephone support or register a ticket online? I've found calling works best. However, I did encounter a bug about 6 months ago and opened a ticket online. They called me for more info within an hour.

  • Darren,

Aren't you using the Edge to record the activity?

Are you guys also recording the Biking activity on the vivosmart?

    Same Issue Linked to Biking

I'm recently having the same issue and it's linked to biking with the Garmin wireless speed sensor. A couple of weeks ago -- no problem. Now, whenever I bike, the mobile app shows millions of steps, while the band shows the correct number. It's a problem with Garmin Connect.
