Missing folders when connected to PC

i recently deleted an activity by mistake, i went to upload it manually as the activity is still on the device ( edge 500). However when device connectted to computer as a USB i cannot find any folders that store the files. The only folder i have is a folder called Recycler. Everything else is shortcuts meaning i cannot find any of the activities that are on the device.

When i use garmin express to upload files, it misses the activity that was deleted and uploads any other new files.

Can someone please tell me why i dont have any folders to view old activities and if there is any way of finding the file.

Thanks
  • What happens when you click the Garmin shortcut? Also, is there anything in recycler? Which device are you using?

I get the above error message when i click on the garmin shortcut. The recycler folder contains a file for Configuration Settings in notepad.

    Its a edge 500
  • Is it possible you deleted more than just an activity? How did you delete it, using the settings on the edge or as a USB storage device from windows... or just from the garmin connect website? Try setting windows to show hidden files / folders if you haven't already.

You should be able to see old activities, also a lot of other folders + files which strangely aren't in your picture. From memory they're in a folder named Garmin.

i deleted it from garmin connect. I uploaded it fine the first time and viewed the activity fine before i deleted it by mistake.
ive tired the show all folders but still not luck. New activities must be saving somewhere as ive used since and uploaded it fine. Think i will have to call garmin tomorrow as something aint right.
  • When I connect my edge500 to my PC, it will show up in the file explorer as "Garmin Edge 500" with the blue triangle garmin logo. Usually drive F, but not always. Your drive assignment will likely be different. When you open that up, you should have several folders, one of them /Garmin.

Activities are in the /garmin/activity folder. The legitimate recycler folder used by Microsoft will only show up on NTFS partitions, which the Edge 500 cannot have.

There is a way to make Garmin Express re-sync activities that were previously synced, but I don't use Garmin Express and don't know what that is. You can also try an "import" from the summary of activities page when you are on the modern Garmin Connect page. The link is near the top right. You'll just have to browse to the /garmin/activities folder on your deivce and select the file.
  • I missed the link to the screen shot in your first post when I previously replied. What does it show when you select properties on the "Garmin Edge 500"?? The general tab should show type as "removable disk" and file system as "FAT"

You didn't re-install Windows or do a major windows update with the 500 connected did you?

there is some internet talk about a "usb flashdrive virus" or "shortcut virus" but I didn't find any discussion about it that I'd consider trustworthy, so that may just be hoaxes. Symantec doesn't specifically list it in their known threats, but their forum is full of discussion about it. It supposedly surfaced around 2012.

I have FAT32 in the properties. Not sure if that is different to just FAT and its a removable disk

No i didnt have any updates/installations when it was plugged in.
  • Mine is just FAT. I recommend you just call Garmin Support and see what they say. Might be worth the wait on hold.

If it were mine, I'd probably format it and rebuild the filesystem. If you decide to do that, then be sure you are comfortable with that. The procedures can be found in the forums. But if you are having any similar issues with other usb drives that will be futile as it will likely happen again.
  • hello, I am trying to download a Watchface to my Solar 2. i cannot find though the Garmin subfolder called Apps in which to put a new watchface. any thoughts?

  • I am trying to download a Watchface to my Solar 2

Which Solar watch exactly? Instinct, Fenix? If Instinct, then are you sure you have the Instinct 2 model, and not the 1st gen Instinct Solar? The older model does not support Connect IQ apps or watchfaces.

If you are sure you own a watch supporting Connect IQ, why don't you use the Connect IQ app, or Garmin Express for installing the watchface?
