Bluetooth Issues with Forerunner 225 & Garmin Connect

Anyone else having major frustrations with the new Garmin 225 & Bluetooth Sync?

I can't seem to get any help from any Garmin contact us links on this.

• I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. It finds multiple other Bluetooth devices with ease but it takes me multiple turn-on, turn-off attempts on both devices to find the Forerunner 225.
• If I can get past the first issue above and the phone says it’s connected and the watch say “Status = Connected”, the Garmin Connect App still struggles to connect to the device “Device not found”
• Sometimes the device name on my Phones Bluetooth menu changes from “Forerunner 225” to “nRF51822” which might explain the problem
• Then even if I can eventually get the device recognised on my Garmin Connect app, the sync seems similarly impossible to get going. Not matter what I push it doesn’t seem to force the sync. The only way I’ve managed to get it working at all is to wear the watch to sleep and then sync via the sleep mode activity area.

Obviously a very frustrating experience
  • This morning for Android was a new Garmin Connect update - without restarting my phone "S3" which I normally have to do for a sync, my watch actually managed to connect and sync no problem!
  • It Worked!

I think I might have found a fix. ** Well atleast this definitely did the trick for me. **

    1. make sure that you're running the latest firmware.
    a. by connecting to the Garmin Express desktop utility
    b. by connecting to the Garmin Connect phone app

    2. do a factory reset on the watch (the life-saver)
    3. set up you watch.

    What to expect now:
    - every time you open your watch settings (navigate away from the watchface) the bluetooth symbol starts blinking in the upper screen. As soon as the symbol is solid shown the phone will state "Phone connected" in a sort of popup on the watch. At that point the app will be synced in the background or visually in the bottom of the app.

Faith in humani.... euh.. Garmin restored! :D Good luck!

I can't take credit for this solution though, I got this answer on a Dutch techforum by another FR225 user.

This method worked for me last night on my Galaxy S5. For the "factory reset" I held the on/off button for 15 seconds to force power off, not sure if thats the true method, but that worked. Started back up, connected, synced, woo! The sync is pretty painfully slow with a crappy progress bar on my setup FYI.
  • Just got off the phone with Tech Support who talked to Mobile Support... they want me to return the watch to the location bought for exchange... if the store won't exchange it I have to send it in for warranty replacement to a place in Canada called Raytech.

Going to try this master reset first...

Not impressed. My Fitbit Surge connected with 0 issues.

    B.

Update: Ran yesterday, didn't auto sync, turned watch off then back on, synced. Not the best process, but it works for now until they send out a full fix.
  • New update in Garmin Express

Same problem on my Forerunner 225 on a Xperia Z2 with Android 5.1

Garmin Express showed me today another update (i'm already on 2.40) for bluetooth support, i have installed the update but the update did not work - same issue as before.
  • :mad::mad::mad::mad: Bluetooth Forerunner 225 no funciona.
  • No funciona el bluetooth de mi Forerunner 225

Desde hace ya casi 1 mes que no funciona el bluetooth del reloj. Al parecer es un problema que Garmin no logra solucionar. Un pena, ya que l reloj me encanta.

I notice that when I got my device out of the box it was on firmware 2.30. As the unit was new I thought I would update the firmware but I did not follow the process so the unit stayed on V2.30 by mistake.

I had no problems for the first four weeks of ownership - a faultless Bluetooth performance.

Then I saw the queued firmware update. Since applying this (co-incidence?) I have had exactly the same problem - albeit to be totally open - my OnePlus One mobile phone also had the latest Android update to 5.1.1. and the the Garmin App was updated also.

Now I have all the connection issues noted in the blog; After an hour unsuccessfully trying to connect yesterday - I turned the device off (for the first time) this morning. On power up, it then reluctantly connected to the Android App and downloaded (sync'd) the data - a work around which I hope will be fixed.
  • The problem seems to be with updating the firmware after you have configured the watch.
It comes with version 2.30. If you configure the watch and then update the firmware to 2.40 you will have to do a factory reset and then reconfigure the watch. I did it and now it works fine, but I lost my run/activity history in the watch.
I would recommend updating the firmware the moment you get the watch, before adding any data to it. But if you are reading this thread it's probably too late for that.
  • LG 4 Problem

Yeah, also the same here for a LG G4.

Try to do a hard reset, even twice. But it did not solved this problem.

Particulary annoying because I just bought this watch today. Planned to take it back to the shop and get paid back...
