Garmin Connect Routes cannot sync with Garmon Edge 705

I have been a faithful Garmin customer for over 10 years now. I had an edge predecessor and have had an edge 705 since 2010. It is still going strong and I do not need to replace yet.

So after spending 4 hours trying to use Garmin connect to sync a new route with my edge 705, I found a thread from a few days ago that had a response that it had been overlooked in the new Garmin connect version, it was "probably" down to the TCX format on the 605 and 705 and there was no estimated rectification date or guarantee of a solution.

Please do sort this quickly or I think many customers will become disenfranchised and simply abandon their garmin sports device due to lack of simplicity and functionality and use strava on their apple or android phone instead.

Here's hoping you can solve this.

Many Thanks
  • Has this been resolved ...

Why have Garmin gone quiet on this - this is a major reputational issue

Any update since I looked on here over a week ago?

This problem is still unresolved.. found a workaround

    Garmin tech support replied....

"At this time, Garmin is aware of an issue with courses being sent/syncing with certain devices. We researching this problem and are hopeful for a resolution soon."

Three weeks later and Garmin Connect is effectively useless to me in the peak cycling season.

    Here is a crude workaround:
Create a course on Map My Ride or any other program that exports a GPX file. Save your course as GPX and then use a converter (I found one at www.gpsies.com/convert.do ) that converts the GPX file into a TCX file.

I then use Windows File Explorer to copy the TCX file into the G:/Garmin/Courses folder on my Edge.

It is a cumbersome method, but at least it allows me to continue using the Edge 705.

I have tried all of the other suggestions I found on the forum such as reloading the OS, deleting all my other courses, Connect Classic etc. So far all have failed.
  • And another one

Very annoying - I assumed there was a problem with my device and I've wasted a lot of time on this and gone through a load of unnecessary rigmarole, resetting device, reverting to "classic" Connect UI (and having to install old Browser plugin again) etc. Just found this thread and see that Garmin simply hasn't tested against the 705.

Garmin know all about this and still do nothing

I spoke to Garmin on this last week and all they say is that they are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it. You can drop the files your create from the Garmin classic rather than modern but if like me you have a cycling club with a set of rides saved to upload via GARMIN Express you will not be able to. I get the feeling that Garmin do not give a rats about anyone who owns a 705 as they want you to buy the 1000 or 810.

Dman expensive heart rate speedo at the moment. I will not advise anyone to buy a Garmin until they sort out their customer support.

Same issue synching with my Edge Touring

I bought an Edge Touring 6 weeks ago. It is synching from Garmin Express to Garmin Connect, but not the other way around. Reading the forums and other media, it seems to be a very common issue, and if I'd know about this, I wouldn't have bought it.
I did resolve it previously by fully resetting it (and after that it did sync twice before the issue started again), but don't really want to do this as I got a lot of routes\rides on it now and it will not solve the issue.
I know that the work-around is to create a route as GPX in another application and then upload it straight onto the Garmin-drive. This is ridiculous as I forked out a hefty price for something that only half-works. Really hope Garmin does take note and improve the software as this work-around is rubbish.
