Activity Loads as 0.00 Distance

So I uploaded my recent hike, which was 2.5 miles (Pu'u Heleakala), and when uploading the GPX file, it read as 0.00 miles. I uploaded it twice and both times it has read as 0.00 mi. I deleted one of my old tracks, which was 2.8 miles (Mo'ole Valley) to see if it was just that GPX file as the problem, but it was not. I uploaded the same Mo'ole Valley track and the distance read as 0.00 miles. Both show the track of the trail of the trail but show 0.00 miles as the total distance.

I uploaded both GPX files to another site (everytrail) and it read the GPX files and distances correctly.
My Problem

What's wrong?

I don't want to manually put in a distance as the GPX file could probably be read more accurately than my guess...or even everytrails measurements. And I don't want this to be an ongoing thing.

  • Dear David,

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

    I am happy to help.

I can confirm this issue is being investigated by our team and we hope to have a resolution as soon as possible. I do not currently have a time frame for when this issue will be resolved but we hope to have it resolved sometime over the next 2 week period. We are currently having some technical issues with Connect due to the large increase of users which has impacted the issue slightly.
  • It's also been acknowledged here by Garmin staff, there should be a fix soon.
  • I wish tech support would get their act together. The tech support person I communicated with over email said it was me. I shouldn't use GarminConnect with my Dakota 10, silly foolish me, I should be using Basecamp. Insulting my intelligence wasn't a great way to win me over. Anyway, I hope they get it fixed before I ditch them. I bought all my Garmins at Costco! I can return all 3 at any time.
  • We are still waiting.
  • Well we're not at the end of the 2 week period yet ...

Same problem here with an Etrex20. I hope Garmin solves this issue as soon as possible because is very anoying if you want to follow any trainning method or make reports.
I've garmin connect in sync with strava an on strava I can see my rides distances correctly.
  • Same problem with my Dakota 20 (from about 1 month) and also with other track applications and Garmin devices using GC. The problem is annoying. I'm using other competitor web portal to track my workout. I'm finding them very useful .... Will I came back to modern garmin connect interface? Maybe .... but I cannot use garmin express or automated sync between my Dakota 20 and GC and it is annoying too. I will decide soon in the meantime I'm learning to use a different web service.
  • See the sticky in the Connect forum. The distance issue is due to be fixed. I don't believe handhelds though will ever auto sync so if you're expecting that you'll be disappointed.

Exactly the same - Oregon 550t.

VERY FRUSTRATING given Garmin have known about the issue for ages.
  • Well to be fair they haven't known about it 'for ages'. Also bear in mind Connect is mainly aimed at fitness/sports devices and not handhelds. Priority over the last few weeks has therefore been aimed at sorting out the issues over Christmas/New Year ... some of which were not of Garmin's making.

The issue however is acknowledged and a fix should be forthcoming shortly.

I'm now going to close this thread in favour of the original one at https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?176681-GPX-Activities-uploaded-no-longer-have-length-distance
