GPX Activities uploaded no longer have length/distance

Since the Garmin Connect website downtime yesterday (12/19/14), GPX file uploaded as activities no longer interpret the correct mileage length, or associated calculations. Time and elevation appear to be known, but not distance.

Anyone else see this?

Thanks
  • I tried to export and import a previous activity (GPX format) having correct length/distance values. After import, those values are no more correct. Perhaps last release bring some bugs...
  • I've been facing the same problem since Dec 18. Time and elevation are okay, but distance and speed are zero. Seems solely a Garmin Connect problem, as the gpx files work fine in Strava and MapSource.
  • Same problem, no matter what files I upload, the distance is set at 0.01 km
  • Hi all
Same problem with my Dakota 20.
I have correct time, elevation, temperature etc but distance and speed appear to be divided by 1000.
    Garmin, please respond...
  • Hello? Garmin? Anyone there? I'm starting to think that Garmin really sucks. They keep doing this. They get an "F" in 'communicates with users'.
  • I am having the same problem. Here is the contents of a thread I posted in this forum earlier under the subject "problem uploading to connect":

My device is a Garmin Dakota 20.

I have been uploading my data to Garmin connect without any problem for more than two years. Suddenly, four days ago on Dec 19, without me making any changes to either the GPS device or the Garmin connect settings, my uploads began to behave strangely. Firstly, the activity name which always appeared as Untitled now is appearing as Islas Uncategorized. Secondly, the values for distance, moving speed, average speed, and moving time are all shown as zero values, although the route is mapped correctly on the google map and the graphs of speed, elevation and heart rate are all drawn correctly.

I have tried uploading the data in both classic and modern views with the same results. I also reset my gps to factory settings to no avail.

Examination of the gpx file shows no difference between old files that loaded correctly and the ones that now are screwing up. Searching for the terms "Islas" and "Uncategorized" in the gpx files returned negative results.

I am at a dead end here, which is why I am appealing for your help.

    Cheers,
    doug brown

Same issue started 2 days ago.

Clearly this is a problem with an upgrade to the Connect platform. It started after "Untitled" was replaced by location details.

I also tried analysing the track data, reset all settings on device etc. Then I found this thread... glad to know my device is not recording faulty data, but it sucks that it is not resolved 2 days later..
  • Same issue.
Distance on Garmin connect is 1/1000th what it should be.
Bizarrely I upload to Connect and it auto syncs to my Strava and Fetcheveryone account, both of which have the correct distance data.
This should be very simple for Garmin to fix, don't understand why its not.
  • Same issue with my Dakota 20.
First the switch to the new style that took months to be acceptable, now this. by the way, i still cannot upload automatically my routes because it does not see them properly.
i am increasingly disappointed in the Garmin software. Even BaseCamp has a bunch of glitches that drive me nuts...
  • Same issue here with my dakota 20. I have sent a mail to my country support mail address with a link to this topic.

maybe others should do the same and like this the problem might get resolved quicker
