Garmin Connect Upload Failure

I am using a Dakota 20 and have been uploading to Garmin Connect for some time.

I had some USB connection issues with my home computer (USB hub seems to have failed) hence connected the unit directly and it mounts.

The issue is that the current GPX file will not upload to Connect, either manually or by selecting the unit.

I brought the Current GPX file into BaseCamp and tried to upload from there - this failed. I therefore deleted the current GPX file, as I assume it was in some way corrupted and following a bike ride have tried to upload again - still failed.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
  • Since yesterday I've been having the same problem with my eTrex 30. Garmin Connect has never managed to upload automatically from the device, but the manual update has worked fine till now. Now I get "An error occurred with your upload. Please try again." I've attached a file.

From last night it seems that Garmin Connect doesn't upload any activity. It worked just fine until noon yesterday, from then it's always a failure.

Adding my same experience here with Garmin Connect. Tried uploading a .gpx file which was created by my Oregon 450, and the same error message stated in this thread is shown. Was able to upload .gpx files without any hitch up until March 31st, then only tried uploading again starting yesterday.

I truly believe there was a release update made by Garmin to the Connect site this month which made these errors appear.

Converting the gpx file to tcx does not help. The tcx file cannot be uploaded, either. Just to let you know...

    Travis, here is the file.

    Hello KZP,

Your GPX file opens just fine in MapSource and BaseCamp but, like you found out, not in Garmin Connect.
That might be because the file goes nowhere. It has 20 points recorded in 11 minutes all in one spot.

I ran the file thru the Fit File Repair Tool and exported as TCX and it loads into GC.

I, too, have the same problem with my Oregon 450. Today I am unable to upload my file directly to Connect, nor do a manual upload with the file saved from Basecamp. Previously I was able to upload directly to Connect and upload gpx files.

    Hello Frank,

I opened your GPX file in MapSource and BaseCamp just fine but, just like you found out, not Garmin Connect.

I ran the GPX thru the Fit File Repair Tool, exported as TCX and it opens in GC just fine.

I suspect the problem is having fitness data (cadence) in a GPX file.

Does the Etrex have an option to "Save as" TCX or FIT instead of GPX?

So....here ya go. Fixed with the Fit File Repair Tool.

Here is my file (saved from Basecamp as both gpx and tcx) which today I can not upload to connect.
  • Thanks, Don. Yes, the 'fixed' version does upload. But it doesn't really solve the problem for the bunch of us who are using eTrex/Oregon/other such Garmin devices. The eTrex writes files in GPX format, and includes CAD and HR data. I transfer the GPX file to a directory on my computer, and upload to Garmin Connect and to Strava from there.

Up until yesterday, this procedure worked fine, even displaying CAD and HR data correctly. Something got broken yesterday.

I am downloading the Fit File Repair Tool and will play with it, but I think it's a bit much to have to make this conversion for each ride. It would be nice if GC got fixed again.
