Edit you Garmin Swim Data free online

HI,

I'm a Garmin Swim user and also a programmer. As many of you, I sometime have inaccuracies in my data. For me, it's mostly an extra lap now and then. It usually happens when swimming in a crowded lane, and I have to switch from freestyle to breaststroke to look for an opportunity to pass. As a result, distance, average speed, and maximum speed metrics will be affected. I used to wish I could just merge two lengths within Garmin Connect and get more accurate data. Since GC doesn't provide this feature (yet), I decided to make my own tool. It is working great for me, so I decided to add splitting length, changing stroke style and pool size, and added a web interface to it. It's free as long as hosting cost are reasonable. Feel free to try it and let me know what you think.

Garmin Communicator plugin is required and you'll have to be able to manually upload an activity file to Garmin Connect. I explain how to do it on the web site.

  • Thanks, glad you like it. I wanted to add this feature for a long time, but didn't have time to work on it.
  • Garmin support and I emailed back and forth 8-9 times, and they are investigating the issue of exporting individual lap data to a csv file. Out of curiosity, erunnermtl, are you still able to export a full set from GC2? I still only get the set time and length, without stroke data or individual lap data when exporting to csv. From the conversations with Garmin support, I got the feeling that swimming was not a top priority and that the support people (while very nice) didn't know what data was exported, so i'm not confident it will ever be resolved.

    thanks, bryan.
  • Hi,

Yes, I still get both lap and set (interval) data on GC. Sorry to hear that you still have issues. By the way, have you tried copy/pasting the html table from the viewer page on my website? you should be able to import data into a spreadsheet or as tab-separated text into a text editor. My web site doesn't display time with tenth of seconds, but I could add that. Note that you could do the same (copy/pasting) from GC, but you would have to expand every sets before copying.
  • Our displays must be completely different. My old GC format doesn't have the splits on it anymore at all. I can expand the data in GC2 and copy and paste it, and it mostly works out fine, but is kind of a pain to do that. I can see 10ths in GC2.

I clicked through on your activity, and it's perfect. You also still have the old swim graph and time in GC1. That is the data I used to get. I would add a date column at the end of the exported data just to keep it sorted. My data and views at http://connect.garmin.com/profile/BryanSwim are way different. It's almost as if my entire GC1 view is half-destroyed or being removed.

    thanks, bryan.
  • Hi,

I tried to export data from your link, and as you say, I only get set's data. Here is a link to my activity, Are you able to get lap data from it?

Did you migrate to GC2? May it has to do with you going back and forth GC1 to GC2? Just a guess.
  • I just noticed that Garmin Connect changed upload folders on my PC. Up to 27.02 it was C:\ProgramData\Garmin\GarminConnect\GARMIN SWIM-3863410131\Upload\FIT_TYPE_4.
Now it is C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Devices\3863410131\Sync\FIT_TYPE_4. Don't know if that is result of GC update or of my "playing" with user profile settings.
And files don't show .fit extension anymore. But Swimming Watch Tools recognise them anyway, both Editor and Viewer.
  • Hi,
Would it be possible to add support for swims recorded on the vivoactive? Unfortunately this device does not appear to record stroke type so this tool would be perfect for editing the fit files to include the stroke type and correct any extra or missing lengths.

    Many thanks!
  • Hi,

I'm planning to add support, but I need a few files from different users. I will send you my email in a private message if you want to contribute. You can also upload files to my web site. You'll get an error message saying the device is not supported but I will get the file.

Wow! Thank you for this, luckily I don't have too much data yet, so I was able to go back and edit quite a few, where I have to merge laps or where breaststroke is suddenly recognise as backstroke. Thanks!!!
  • As a rookie in the swimming world and with the garmin swim i still make mistakes specifically with the distance of the lengths and with this tool i can fix the lengths with incorrect distances. Thanks for that, its very useful. From my side you have my support to maintaining the site and for the updates.
A good update could be to assign name to the drills

    regards.
