Difference between "time," "moving time" and "elapsed time"?

Wondering if anybody can tell me the difference between "time," "moving time" and "elapsed time"? Those three items show up on the details for a workout, but I don't know the difference between them. Anybody have an explanation? Thanks.
  • There is quite lot of posts about times, elevations, and other stuff being wrong over the last week on Garmin Connect. Garmin's getting ready to do a change-over to a "new and better" Garmin Connect. Maybe this is a result of changes made to get ready for that rollout. Hopefully it will get better. Unfortunately Garmin has always seemed pretty closed mouth about anything bad or good. During the time I've been here in the forum, I've never seen Garmin post any redress of issues or questions.

I hope so too. And they should repair all the wrong stuff :) It breaks my stats!
  • I routinely use Garmin Connect as well as two, sometimes three other sites to look at my data. I'm not even an athlete or seriously into fitness. Each of those sites have certain aspects in the way they show my data that appeals to me, they all fall short in being a site that I would exclusively want to use. Or course, I'm the cheapskate, I'm using their free accounts.

Thanks! Maybe there was too many complaints and they had to issue this :)

Good, because yesterday I noticed my 'Moving Time' was longer for each lap than my 'Time.'

I just used a Garmin 410 to record a long run - 38 kilometres with autolap set to 1 km and autopause turned off. I occasionally stopped the watch if I stopped for a drink or to admire the view; in fact I made several fairly long stops. Here is what is confusing me when I now go to GC and look at my splits:

    1. In nearly every lap "moving time" is greater than "time". If moving time is supposed to be total time minus stopped time, how can this be?
    2. Similarly, "average moving pace" is greater than "average pace" for each lap. The "average pace" values appear to be what my watch flashed at the completion of each lap.
    3. I ran all laps at paces between 4:40 mins/lap and 6:40 mins/lap. So why does the summary at the bottom of the table of splits show my average pace for the whole workout at 7:10? That COULD be the average pace per km using my total elapsed time, including the times when I had the watch stopped, but the individual lap average paces weren't calculated that way.
    4. In total, if I export to Excel and add up the individual lap times, I was running for 3:36, and I know that this, in fact, is about how long I was actually running. However, the summary totals in GC for time and moving time are both way more than this.

All I want to do is to know my pace exclusive of intervals when I am stopped. I don't entirely trust the auto-pause feature. Is this really so difficult or am I missing something obvious here?

    Thanks for any help!

Rocketgopher - basically Garmin Connect is f*cked at the moment. The watches are working fine, it's just that Garmin has updated their interface (god know's why, as it was fine before and I can't see any improvements) and consequently something is now seriously wrong with the software retrieving the data from the watches and logging it corrector on GC.
This has been going on for some time and is acknowledged as a problem by Garmin here: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?74645-Time-Calculation-Issue

The problem is that they seem incapable of pulling their proverbial finger out and sorting it!!!
