Really Unhappy with New Calendar - sort it out Garmin!!

Im that annoyed that Im taking the time to post in this forum!

I have been using the old style calendar every day and although it wasnt perfect it did the job - I could keep track of all the exercise Id done and see at a glance what ive been up to over the last month.

But the new format... what a load of rubbish! Where do I start...

Firstly why is everything in the past in some faded washed out blue colour? I have great eyesight but this is difficult to read and generally uncomfortable to look at.

Next, I use 'Notes' to enter when I have a Rest Day as there was no other way to do this. Now what do I get?! A crummy speach bubble in the top right corner of a day! I have to hover over it to see whats written there!! Whos idea was that?! I dont want to have to hover over every speech bubble to see its contents, what a waste of my time!

Worst of all are the format of the manual activities I enter. I use these a lot to show when I have done sports classes. Previously I would see eg 'TRX 1 hour' 'Body Pump 1 hour' Now what do i get?! .00 mi 1:00:00 !!!! Well thats useful **NOT** it doesnt even tell me what exercise Ive done! I have to either hover over it or click on it an open another window before I can see Ive done!

Also the load times for the calendar are slower than they were and they were bad enough previously.

I work in IT and this 'upgrade' is rubbish. I dont know who Garmin pay to 'update' their Connect software but you need to check and test that what you are creating is *actually* better and more useful than the previous version. How could you let this version be released Garmin?

I reluctantly moved over to Garmin from SportTracks software which i was very happy with but I preferred the Garmin calendar (even tho it wasnt great for putting future events in) but unless this calendar is changed, and pretty pronto, I am going to have to go back to SportTracks and let me tell you I will not be making the switch again!

I completely agree. I need more info displayed on my calendar- basic info like the old calendar showed. I need to see what the notes are. These are integral to my usage of the product. I will leave soon if this is not fixed.

Also, in the calendar mode, it would be great if elevation for the week was displayed. Better yet, make it so you can choose which stats are summarized in the calendar. I want distance, training time, elevation. Calorie count is inaccurate and meaningless.

I agree the old format was better than now. Garmin, please change back to the old format or upgrade the current format soon.

I posted and emailed Garmin a few days ago when I first saw the new calendar - I think it's dreadful and I'm reassurred to see I'm not the only one who's thinking of abandoning Garmin because of this. It really ruined my day! I used to love the calendar but the new one is useless.
  • Three against and one for. I like its simplicity.

I will confess to only having looked at it because of this thread. The last time I looked at it, it was only possible to send one workout at a time to the device. I was pleased to see that it is now possible to send more than 1 at a time.

The functionality is far more important, to me at least, than the aesthetics. I'd rather they spend time providing the ability to send scheduled workouts to the devices so they appear as scheduled workouts on the device.

I quite like the focus. The Use Case flows that it has dropped appear to be primarily non-Garmin device workouts and unplanned workouts.

If you are using Connect for planned workouts with your Garmin device it's a much cleaner implementation. If you are trying to add weight training/yoga classes into the calendar it's not as supportive but isn't that really stepping into the area of products like "training peaks"?

imo, Connect should support Run/Bike/Swim Garmin planned workouts well and concisely. (there are lots of gaping holes here still). The latest rework of the calendar is an improvement of focus on the product functionality rather than as a generic place for people to stick unrelated workouts.

... and Yes, the colour selections are abysmal.

I personally am edging towards Training Peaks despite the cost because I would like logging software that lets me integrate my strength/sport training with the my run/bike/swim training.

Where I think Connect continues to fall short is:

    - the lack of support for editing bad data from the devices
    - tools for analyzing the activity outputs for run/bike/swim
    - ongoing support and enhancement of training plans
    - the community elements continue to be nonexistent
  • I agree with all these comments. The new calendar is terrible.
Bring back the greater info view and colors into the calendar!

Agree with all the concerns above, and desperately wish for a return to the basic display of the previous calendar. I want to see, at a glance, what type of activities I'm doing in a week/month (the color coding by type), a bit of text about what it was ("Gym workout", "Bike commute", "Green River kayak"), and then the distance/time (if applicable). The handling of manually-entered data (non-distance/time) is abyssmal now, as the OP points out. And to top it off, all delivered in a small font with a choice of pale pastel colors, including pale yellow and faint grey? Really? This is clearly not being thought about like an end user of this service. And it is clear from many comments in several threads that the calendar view is a (or THE) critical interface/tool that keeps users at Connect, and not departing to other tracking software. Please seriously reconsider everyone's concerns!
  • C'mon garmin cahnge it back already - we're all gonna keep complaining till you do.
The new calendar view is horrible.

I also agree with the above posts. The new calender format is NOT an improvement. Please change the calender back to the old format.
