Interesting, and amusing rendition of directions

I have a Garmin Nuvi 775, I have been using it for a number of years without any real problems. I bought it in the UK but have since retired and moved to the USA. The device is great over here, it had USA & Europe maps anyway. However, I was in Texas recently and down there they have roads that are designated as "Farm to Market" or "FM". During my stay in Texas, my Nuvi produced a route, perfectly logical route and where I needed to go, down a "FM", or "Farm to Market" road. My young lady's voice echoed the instruction, "Turn right on Federated States of Micronesia road 41". HUH!!??

At first I didn't cath all she said, but later I did and just laughed. Only twice during my stay in Texas did she say "Turn right on FM 41" or whatever Farm to Market road it was.

I wonder where she got the Federated States of Micronesia from?

The Voice file. I use a foreign (female) voice in my unit because, frankly, I prefer it to "Jill" (the US female voice). That said "she" often pronounces abbreviations in an amusing way. My guess is that you're using a UK voice rather than a US one.

So why? I could be that the voices are created outside the US and the people creating them don't know what the abbreviations stand for or how to "pronounce" them.

FYI Garmin has a (free) program called Voice Studio so you can create your own voice file. For example your significant other could tell you "where to go" even when they're not there :D

Oh yes, I am sure they do! ;) BUT..... do they have a proper regional accent for Texas and one that knows what a FM road is? LOL I posted this as an interesting, and amusing rendition of directions, not for any serious reasons. I wonder why I would even want to "buy" a voice......

Not to my knowledge. That said maybe you can find a local Texan and have them record stuff with Garmin Voice Studio :D
