Garmin Nuvi 1310 problem with Favourites

Hi, I have a Nuvi 1310 and just lately I have been having problems with favourites. When I select favourites I get the words 2All Favourites2 followed by hundreds of numbers. If I select All Favourites I can find a list of my favourite places but if I select one of the numbers as though to edit or delete it, it shows up the distance and the direction to one or sometimes 2 of my favourites.

How can I get rid of all of these numbers without losing any of my favourites ?

Frankly I've found the current.gpx to be corrupt and therefore unloadable by MS/BC.

There was a time when I spent hours recovering track/trip log data, by hand, from a corrupt current.gpx file. Now I use this trick and don't need to.

Yes I really really like that (hidden) feature. I don't like the crude trip logs created by nuvi's as I like to have detailed tracks of my travels. I keep them for historical purposes (vacation records etc).

Also, I have my handheld units set to record every sec so I get good detail on hiking trails etc. Both can record to the microSDHC card so the 10,000 Active Log limit isn't an issue.
  • How to fix numbers in Favorites

I had the same problem on a Nuvi 1340. I was able to fix it by backing up the gpx file to my desktop, then directly editing the copy of the gpx file (the contents are just XML), then deleting all my Favorites on the Nuvi 1340, and then restoring the modified gpx file back to the device.

The specific fragments I removed from the gpx file all matched this pattern:

    <gpxx:Category>[-.0-9]+</gpxx:Category>
