Change to Bing maps disappointing

Hello,

I'm disappointed in the switch to Bing maps. The "far" view in both map and ariel is much more distorted than the previous version with google maps. It also seems that the terrain view has disappeared. I assume this was done as a cost saving measure, but from a user perspective, it's a loss of functionality.

However, I still love my garmin as a training tool, and has been helpful in my quest for my first full marathon in early december.

This is a level-drop for Garmin

Using bing maps?! In the first second after being logged on my Garmin Desktop, I could detect the horrible change. At least, allow me to decide!

Review my excursions will be less fun...

Why?! Google maps are far better.

The quality of Bings maps for places like Australia is no where near as good as Google Maps.

WHY?! This is really a step backwards. Is there any user out there that actually prefers Bing maps?

Listen to your customer base Garmin.

There are two possible reasons they switched:

1) msft paid them a huge wad of cash
2) msft threatened to sue them if they didn't stop using google

In either case, why on earth do you think they would answer your question?

1) "we're now rich, so screw you"
2) "msft said we violated 95 patents on mapping and we can't afford to defend ourselves. we had to pay them x million dollars and sign an agreement on the the condition we wouldn't reveal the reason to anyone"

Er, nope, I think it's just better for them to keep quiet.

Garmins way of keeping quiet about this is extremely strange in my opinion, especially since they are actively answering questions in other parts of the forum.

This is only annoying the users and is giving Garmin a huge lot of badwill to handle. Too bad for them... and for us.

Disappointed with Bing Maps

I am also very disappointed with the lack of detail Bing maps offers in Europe. I like the Garmin interface, and I would even pay a few dollars a month to use the service with Google maps if thats what it takes, but in the meantime I will be switching to Strands...

Please Garmin, con you give me ANY good reason why Bing maps are better than Google maps here in Europe?
