Change to Bing maps disappointing

Hello,

I'm disappointed in the switch to Bing maps. The "far" view in both map and ariel is much more distorted than the previous version with google maps. It also seems that the terrain view has disappeared. I assume this was done as a cost saving measure, but from a user perspective, it's a loss of functionality.

However, I still love my garmin as a training tool, and has been helpful in my quest for my first full marathon in early december.

Chris

It's total garbage, I'm using Gfix for the moment, unfortunately that doesn't fix "Player" mode yet.

Why Garmin don't give you the option to decide on what maps you want to use I have NFI. It's pretty poor form...

HORRIBLE : Google Maps is SUPERIOR to Bing maps

The change from Google Maps to Bing is TRAGIC! I use my 310XT watch a lot. Before I loved to go to connect.garming.com and check out where I ran. Now this is a nightmare. I switched to Garmin from Polar because Garmin was superior when it came to presenting training data online. I will switch back to Polar again if Garmin doesn't change this.

Obviously Micorsoft payed Garmin to do this switch. However it's a mystery how Garmin do not think about the user experience. In the long run Garmin will lose customers making decisions like this.

However, for all you folks complaining about the maps on GC, why no complaints about the maps in Garmin Training Centre? They're far worse.

So? Perhaps people use the online maps more frequently for various reasons. Your argument isn't particularly convincing. You're basically saying that the criticism is "invalid" because users aren't criticizing other softwares for their crappy maps.

You must have missed the part where Garmin SWITCHED from something better to something worse.

Garmin provide basic services for you to analyse your activity data post activity. They make no claim to be better or worse than any other service, free or otherwise out there.

If you buy a product that performs a certain way you probably want to use it for that reason. If performance changes for the worse AFTER you bought it, you might get upset. Many people are. You aren't. Good for you.

It is your choice whether or not to use their limited services. To say it devalues the device is a bit of a stretch when there are a number of much better alternatives out there that offer a great deal more for post activity analysis.

    I disagree.

My advice? Get over it and move on. If you don't like GC or GTC, move on to something else.

Which is what could be said for your replies as well, right? If you don't like users venting, get over it and move on.... which you eventually did:

Time to go for a run now! :D
  • Saeedi, what gives with terrain view??? I still can't see it?

    Bing maps are terrible

I hate the new Bing maps, look at this!

    http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&cp=51.15789622805812~-0.4670242220154952&lvl=17&dir=0&sty=a&eo=0&where1=Cranleigh%2C%20Surrey&q=cranleigh

This is just a joke. Most of my runs cross this weird spacial anomaly that only the Microsoft imagery systems can see. When using the google maps they showed what was really there, with Bing it's utter rubbish.

Shame on you Garmin, I would have been happier with you throwing adverts everywhere than this change.

I don't have it on my maps. Weird, isn't it. Even weirder than moderators not replying to comments on their own posts.
