1490t Traffic Issue

My fairly new 1490t frequently loses the traffic signal or when starting up, does not receive the traffic signal. Pulling the power cord seems to get it going for a while and then the signal stops again and the icon goes grey. I am in traffic coverage areas (Albany, NY & Now LA area). I already reset the memory buffer in the settings and it worked for one trip here in LA and now the traffic is once again not loading into the unit. I guess I will have to send it back to Garmin when I return home but curious if others are also experiencing this issue.

I assume your not the only one who has traffic working on a 3790T

On the European model there is an extra aerial lead coming out of the chunky in lead box, which is meant to "improve" european reception.

So I assume there are more FM "problems" in Europe than the USA.

At Garmin's request I have sent my power lead back to Garmin for a replacement which "should solve" the problem...

I'm not holing my breath, others have reported that a lead change has made no difference..

Oddly, (I hope not) mine is working like a champ: the traffic search function is amazing and very consistent with my experience in specific areas in and around the city-so far, so good!

    Traffic issues

what most of you have been experiencing have been affecting me also. So I've been googling my 1490T was update traffic and reading this form, I found the problem. I downloaded a new users manual and noticed that one of my problems is the FM receiver my be sitting to low in my truck. I've touched the green icon and did a traffic search and I could see traffic in LA (I'm in San Diego) but not in my area. Although sometimes I'm directed around the traffic so I'm thinking it's not my unit. Problem solved the long part of the plug in cord has a device on it and that is the FM receiver and it now works.

    3490LMT with traffic issues

I just bought a 3490LMT and am also having traffic issues.
I live north of Boston and keep losing the traffic signal even when I am within strong signal coverage.

Me as well, so try to disconnect external antena, you will see, the signal will be much better :-) The same happened to me.

    Same problem with 2 2460s.

The Traffic icon is illuminated but there is no indication that traffic info is reaching the Garmin.

    Traffic on Nuvi1300LMT

After I updated my map and firmware two weeks ago, traffic doesn't show anymore. The icon is there, but always stays green and when viewing the large map, there is no traffic information.

I just spoke with customer support at Garmin and the guy actually said to me that it seems like the traffic is not being reported by NAVTEQ. Seriously? For two weeks in the St. Louis Metropolitan area, traffic hasn't been reported?!?!?!?! Wow. It certainly is on the NAVTEQ website. Google has it as well.

I'm not sure what will happen here, but I will keep checking back.

    Same Traffic Issue w/ 2595LMT

I'll chime in as well on this bad traffic signal theme.

I recently purchased a 2595LMT; the entire reason I bought this unit was to help negotiate traffic nightmares that often crop up during my commute.

After setting up the unit, I didn't see any traffic data displayed. I clicked on the green traffic icon on the main map area. That brought me to a sub-menu that showed the traffic legend, as well as an area traffic status map. What caught my eye, though, was a message at the top of the screen that said "searching for service", and next to that a question mark icon and a brief note that the unit hadn't yet found a traffic signal. After a full commute back & forth, not once did the unit acquire a traffic signal, and I drove headlong through some major bottlenecks that should've registered on the unit had it been working.

Here are the specifics of my unit & usage:

    1) I immediately updated the unit software after purchase (think it's 4.40 now?) using the WebUpdater, so I know the unit software is current as can be. After reading a few posts here, though, maybe the newer software is the problem.

    2) I checked the traffic signal coverage for my area, and I'm located right in a high-coverage zone, right along the I-95 corridor in south central Connecticut, so that shouldn't be an issue at all. Also, I see what seems to be a traffic signal indicator on the traffic sub-menu, and I generally see a full set of green bars, so that would *seem* to indicate the signal is there and strong.

    3) I followed the troubleshooting guide in the FAQ, including the procedure for resetting the FM Tables. This made no difference.

So, I've tried everything in the book to make this thing show traffic updates, to no avail. I'm fairly frustrated at this point, and as I mentioned, the only reason I even bought this was to help out with identifying and re-routing my commute based on bad traffic. If this feature isn't functioning, the unit is effectively worthless to me and I can simply fall back to my older unit that already navigates just fine. What seems more than a little concerning is some of the things I've read on this forum regarding loss of traffic signal *after* a recent software update, and also weird feedback that someone allegedly got from Garmin support about NavTech not supplying traffic data, which sounds silly. These kind of things make me very leery of continuing down this path with Garmin, because if they are true, that is just plain horrible product & customer support.

I'm going to give this new unit a few more days, contact customer support directly and monitor the forum before making a final decision. If this traffic malfunction isn't rectified immediately, I'll simply return this unit and move on to a different brand.

FWIW, I exchanged my Garmin for another at Costco, and the replacement works fine. I'm wondering the the FM receiver on my first unit was faulty.

    NAVTEQ traffic report down???

After I updated my map and firmware two weeks ago, traffic doesn't show anymore. The icon is there, but always stays green and when viewing the large map, there is no traffic information.

I just spoke with customer support at Garmin and the guy actually said to me that it seems like the traffic is not being reported by NAVTEQ. Seriously? My two Garmin GPS: 775T and 3490LMT both stopped showing traffic information via NAVTEQ since last week. I am in New Haven CT region.

775T with GTM21 receiver: Traffic indicator green light is on (from orange), indicating finding traffic stations and singals (?). However, no traffic icon popped up on the map screen. No traffic information can be displayed.

3490LMT with GTM35 receiver (not the bundled GTM 60): Since the traffic green icon always shows up on map, I push it to show traffic information. On this new screen, the top left bars showing some signal (full green bars or some yellow bars). The right side information panel says it is searching traffic signal, etc. However, it also failed to get any traffic update. No traffic is reported on any route, even I95 in New Haven section!

In the development information screens (via speedometer touch), both GPS received scatter FM traffic signals, and the FM stations screen showed normal amount of stations.

Wondering if anyone has also noticed this traffic broken down on NAVTEQ......
