Facebook sharing?

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I figured it was a good place to start. Is there a reason that sometimes when I "Share" and activity to Facebook from Garmin Connect it will sometimes post with all of the information and sometimes not? I have attached a screen shot with three posts as an example. Starting from the top:
1) I had to manually add the text of my description to the post. There is no attempt at a map. It didn't pull the title text either
2) I had to manually add the text of my description, there is not title text either. There was an attempt to pull a map image, but it failed.
3) It automatically added my title and description, but again, no map.
I don't care if there the map gets pulled in, but I really like it when my title and description get automatically added. I have tried waiting various amounts of time (though only in the 1 - 2 minute range). I also export the TCX file, so have tried doing the Facebook share after the export. I still have found no pattern to when the update works correctly and when it doesn't.

Is there something I can be doing to make this process work more reliably?

Thanks, Tim

    Same here

I'm getting the same thing "- - Garmin". I am using Safari 5 on Snow Leopard.

It was working for me a few days ago but now I've been getting the same thing as you consistently. Browser doesn't seem to matter, nor whether I do it from Facebook directly or initiate from Connect.

    Another unhappy FB user

I just got my Forerunner 305 and although I love it in general, the FB sharing sucks. (This is of course a feature of connect.garmin.com, not the sweet 305).

Anyway, I would really like to see this improved. May seem like a small thing, but as most of challenges/boasting on sports activities happens inside FB, the posts shared from Garmin pale in comparison with Endomondo.com, Nokia Sportstracker, Heiaheia.com to name a few.

    The post needs to have:
    - Type of activity
    - Total miles
    - Total time
    - Thumbnail of the map

I can see people have been for this for over a year on the forums. Garmin folks, please hear us out!

Well, I had an experience that leads me to believe this is not strictly a Garmin problem. I tried sharing an article from a pretty big tech web site, and it wound up giving similarly useless default information. No page title, or description. and I know this used to work on that site as well. So I'm thinking that Facebook must have changed something with how they pull that information from the page you are sharing.

Garmin won't post a thumbnail of the map-poor design

Compared to other GPS solutions, even free GPS solutions, connect.garmin.com does not post a thumbnail of the map when you share in FaceBook. It only posts a link to the thumbnail.

Most other sites now post the thumbnail directly in the FaceBook activity stream. That alone is enough to get me using other solutions.

should Garmin look in to this?

At a certain point, when you shared an activity on Facebook, the thumbnail of your device (I have an Edge 705) appeared with the Facebook update which I thought was pretty cool. I'm sure Garmin was delighted because this way their products pictured on Facebook. That too is no longer possible.

So I wonder why Garmin doesn't contact Facebook to get to the bottom of this. One of the reasons I bought my product is exactly because I saw a friend share his activities on Facebook - this is how I discovered the Edge 705...

I stopped using Nike+ because it was buggy. Please tell me Garmin isn't buggy too >_<

Just displaying "Garmin Connect" has no useful purpose. My friends don't know what the hell that means. It needs to display a run summary too. At least Nike+ did that much when it actually worked.
  • I use the MyMotionBased FaceBook app to display my new activities. It seems to work nice and provide basic summary of what I did.

Thanks. I can get may activities to show up inside the MyMotionBased app but I can't get then to post to my wall. Am I missing something?
