Garmin Connect Web "forgets" Browser and Cookie settings

  • The "Remember browser" checkbox at login seems to be non-functional, so the website requires 2FA for every login. Highly annoying.
  • The website does not remember my cookie permission settings, so I have to accept cookies again after every login

Please fix your website.

Thank you.

  • I don't think so. I think they are trying to configure cloudflare (and the forum to some extent) from time to time (that's when we usually see things that worked previously get broken) but they just can't. I don't know the reason, I just can guess, that it's complicated, and maybe they don't have the right expertise (though I'm sure cloudflare does have some customer support for paying customers...)

  • There's another instance of the Connect Website "forgetting" things: my language settings. They frequently revert from English back to German, which is my system language. Why?

  • They frequently revert from English back to German, which is my system language. Why?

Does the language setting at https://connect.garmin.com/app/settings/displayPreferences change too? If not, then the problem is not at Garmin, rather in the auto-translation of your browser. You can disable the auto-translations for individual websites.

  • Yes, the the language setting reverts back the German, too. The website literally forgets that I changed the setting to English and reverts back to my system default language. This doesn't happen immediately, it does properly switches to English... it just reverts back to German after a while.

  • It did not happen to me yet, but you can try setting the option "Preferred languages" of the settings of your browser, and move English to the first place.

  • ... these problems could perhaps come from some kind of a cookie blocker, so I would also try temporarily disabling diverse browser extensions, or external programs that could interfere (anonymizers, anti-virus, ...), then deleting cookies for all *.garmin.com websites, and observe a few days to see whether it helps.

  • I've already disabled uBlock on Garmin Connect by default. Cookies aren't blocked. Changing the preferred language setting in the browser might help, but I should not have to do this. Also, this problem persists across two PCs and various browsers for me. If I had to pin it down.. the reverting back to German seems to happen every time the Cloudflare protection thing appears. After that---BAM---back to German.

Another cause might be that fact that the Connect App on my iPhone is in German (since you can change the language settings for apps independently from the system language). So maybe the website reverts back when syncing with the app? If that was the case, though, the language setting in the preferences would be kind of pointless. Why can't the website just persistently remember my setting?

  • Unfortunately I cannot help much. For the testing, I have four different Garmin Connect accounts, use them on several computers, on four phones, six different browsers, and have them set to several languages, often different than the system language of the concerned device, but it did not happen to me yet, that the language setting would change alone. It does not mean that I do not believe that it happens to you, but as far as I can see, it is not a general problem for everybody using a multilingual setup.

  • These problems became worse since Garmin started to use cloudflare and I guess fired the last people who understood http or might be able to configure cloudflare.

  •  - I've sent you an email to continue this conversation and gather some additional info. Please be on the lookout for that soon.
