I have a Withings and a couple of Garmin devices. Currently use GC but considering moving to Training Peaks just for the full integration. This seems more like a marketing and strategic partnership issue (with Tanita) blocking the integration rather than an engineering problem....
I have both the Tanita and the Withings. Bought the Tanita first. Hate it. It is clunky, the plastic feet fall off easily, it is meant to stay in one place right next to your computer (in my office?? WTF). Got the Withings, LOVE it. Can be anywhere my network can reach (Bathroom where it belongs). Solid piece, no feet, no errors, and works with so many apps without any fuss. Unfortunately, I recently switched from Suunto to Garmin 910xt (and in love with the device and GarminConnect) and now want this data in my Garmin Connect account. I was going to sell my Tanita but now i am going to have both? Doesnt make sense. Open API, please Garmin, do this. Get into the era of Wifi and openess, it is here, don't fight it, Tanita is a dinasaur as far as i am concerned. You should be a leader and not be held back!
I flat out refuse to buy the Tanita scale on principle because it has no display ($100+ add on). It seems needlessly obtuse.
Any word on this ? I have the Garmin 310xt and a withings scale - I note an app which connects to withings and Garmin "ibiker" although the Garmin connection doesn't seem to be up and running
Another frustrated customer. I owe no loyalty to Tanita and won't buy their overpriced scale with no read out. This continuing lack of a simple fix is making me wonder what alterntaives there are to Garmin?
It works both ways. I'd love to have Garmin Connect support the Withings scale, but I'd also love for the Withings app to support Garmin Connect. THe Withings app wants me to keep track of "physical activity", but I don't use RunKeeper or BodyMedia, the only two things they currently support.
