Connect +

Shame on Garmin for locking the comments on the first feed.

The changes made in the Connect 5.0 app made it prime for a premium version. Anyone who looked at it logically then could see this coming. The way they removed so much of the customization and limited what users could put on their dashboards, how they decimated the web version with that update, this was always going to happen. They just started out slowly getting users warmed up to the idea by introducing the premium watch faces.

How long until they start putting the more robust training features behind the paywall and users who don't subscribe are left with the basics like heart rate, steps, and sleep? I am betting 6-12 months. Connect+ is already limited to which watches it works with - Venu3/3s, Vivoactive 5. FR165/255/955/265/965, Fenix7/7Pro/8/E, EpixProGen2, Quatix7, Tactix7/8, Marq2, and D2Mach1/Pro according to DesFit. Now users who actually want the subscription features and don't have one of those watches are going to have to upgrade - everyone knows that Garmin watches are already overpriced. In Canada the price of the Fenix 8 has been going up since it was released not down. Even the sale prices are exaggerated for what you get.

  • On the bottom of the page i read it has date like resting heart rate and HRV .

  • You can plugin your watch to a computer and pull the fit files from the watch. I don't know if you get everything but hearthrate track and GPS track is in there.

  • Connect+ is a joke. It doesnt offer anything valuable. Just spits out some words to wrap around stats I van easily see.

  • Have to agree with the sentiment around paying.

I have a Vivomove Luxe as my every day work watch and a fenix 5s as my current sports watch. I had planned to upgrade to either a fenix 8 or a descent mk3 this year, both because of their scuba diving features.

However having watched Apple put their full dive functionality behind a paywall on release of the Ultra, I’ve been dreading Garmin doing the same. This first step has me holding off on upgrading and considering putting my money into shearwater that costs about the same and to keep my old 5S until it fully dies at which point I’ll consider other options for sports tracking. I can also no longer hand on heart recommend the Garmin watches to other divers in case the feature becomes chargeable in future.

Without a significant reduction in the upfront cost, I can’t justify any subscription on top of an already, arguably, overpriced product which I happily paid for in the past due to there being no further cost once paid out.

  • Funfact - you still cannot ADD one BIKE to one type of cycling... So you need to update equipment at every ride if you have more bikes and are doing more types of cycling (road/virtual/mtb)... GJ Garmin .... totaly worth the Connect+(NOT)... LOL

  • Same goes if you have more than one pair of shoes...
And if you go run, walk or hiking. All types of activities is linked to one pair of shoes..

  • If you mean that you couldn't assign different default shoes for runs, walks, and hikes, that's not true. The categories for default gear are run, bike, hike, other, walk, and swim. So it works between walking, running, and hiking, but not for sub-categories of those (like trail running etc.).

  • You are correct. I haven't updated the equipment on this in some time. I see they have added walk, hiking, run since the last time I bothered doing something here..

But I do see that when selecting hiking activity, that doesn't count towards the walking achievements.

  • when selecting hiking activity, that doesn't count towards the walking achievements.

Why would changing a walk to hiking not count toward walking challenges??

  • Basically they want us to pay 9Eur/Mo to still edit almost every single activity(if you want correct information), because of their own laziness. A simple feature that is requested for years, and Strava has that even for non-premium users... what a joke.
