Equipment tracker

I continue to track gear by entering shoe information in the description field of my GC activities. When gear tracking becomes a part of GC (see quote below), at least I'll be ready.

Yup, gear tracking is a planned enhancement.
  • Unreal...still no way to easily track shoe mileage and/or chain mileage.
  • It's great to get new features like Heatmaps and Openstreetview maps, but how about some features that people actually want like equipment tracking, bulk activity downloads and and open api?

+1, "One small feature for Garmin's team, one giant leap for runnerskind" ;)
  • Can't surely be that difficult to implement this? Come on Garmin. It's finger out time.

That would be great, but don't forget to also display in Kilometres (not only miles).
  • In the recent stockholders call Garmin stated that it would be investing in the social features of connect. I don't think "garmin" is listening.

I could do without all the social media stuff. With all the complcation that's going to add to the site, there'll never be enough programmers available to code the stuff we really want to see.
  • I really prefer Connect more than other (payed) services.
It has everything I need, it's reliable, fast, intuitive, keeps getting new features...
Well, almost everything to be exact - not being able to track mileage makes my life hard.
I don't know why Garmin does not want to make (at least trivial) gear tracking, maybe they want to make it something bigger...

Anyway, I decided to make myself application to allow me to track my gear using data from Garmin Connect API
Like previously suggested here I put gear mark in activity name, so I created app that will get all my activities and sum data by some custom filter.
App will work with any field (description for example) and any kind of filter (contains, starts with, ends with, etc...)
There is also bunch of other stuff you can do.

This is short video in action

If you think it can help you also, you can download app from ">HERE">HERE.

If someone from Garmin thinks that this is not cool let me know.

    Regards.

easy workaround for tracking gear usage

Simple trick to track gear usage in Garmin Connect is to add the name of the gear e.g. model of the shoes to the activity name, then you can filter out the activities with the name included and you have the summary for the distance and time. :D
