Equipment tracker

I continue to track gear by entering shoe information in the description field of my GC activities. When gear tracking becomes a part of GC (see quote below), at least I'll be ready.

Yup, gear tracking is a planned enhancement.

If GC had gear tracking then I'd have no reason to use Strava. I don't get into the social aspects of it and like having the data associated with my runs.

This reminds me of the other main reason I use RunningAHEAD.com -- Ability to easily build your own custom training plans.

Does Strava have any such capability?

Although GC has the ability to schedule workouts on the calendar, it's much easier to build a re-usable plan on RunningAhead. For example, I did my own variation on a Hal Higdon Intermediate Half-Marathon plan last year that worked well for me. I easily copied that plan, tweaked it a little, and scheduled it on the calendar for my next half.
  • I really prefer Connect more than other (payed) services.
It has everything I need, it's reliable, fast, intuitive, keeps getting new features...
Well, almost everything to be exact - not being able to track mileage makes my life hard.
I don't know why Garmin does not want to make (at least trivial) gear tracking, maybe they want to make it something bigger...

Anyway, I decided to make myself application to allow me to track my gear using data from Garmin Connect API
Like previously suggested here I put gear mark in activity name, so I created app that will get all my activities and sum data by some custom filter.
App will work with any field (description for example) and any kind of filter (contains, starts with, ends with, etc...)
There is also bunch of other stuff you can do.

If you think it can help you also, you can download app from ">HERE">HERE.

If someone from Garmin thinks that this is not cool let me know.

    Regards.

I've updated the app to reflect changes in new schema and fixed some bugs.
New version is available on the same location.

    +1 tracking
  • Garmin? Are you out there? Now that you are relaunching Garmin Connect, seems a good time to add this and many other features. Just search on the most viewed topics in this forum. This would be #1.
  • I'll hold off on judgement on the new Garmin Connect but I looked through the screenshots and demo video and couldn't see any evidence of equipment/shoe tracking. If this is true that's really pathetic.

I don't get why people want to track shoes by time or distance.
My mates and i do it by feel.
cross country or track running on stones as well as road running in 35 or 39 DegC temperatures on hot ( 60 DegC+) blacktop dramaticaly brings down the shoe's usefull life.
I spoke to a club runner last season that had his toes out the end of his shoes about why he was still using them " they are about 80Km short of my 700Km rule".

I have moved from the asics GT21x0 series to a very minimul light running shoe three years ago. NONE of my 2 active pairs show any sign of collapsing or deformation where the GT21x0 would get me 600 to 700 Km of road running and this summer has been hot here !

I've made a new version to support login changes made by Garmin, available on same link.
