Power fluctuates widely during exercise activities, such as cycling. It would be helpful to add a chart showing the change in average power over time during an exercise.

If I understand you correctly, that option is already there. See the dropdown box Max Avg at the top of the Power chart.
This option is not available in the Garmin Connect app. The app has fixed charts for elevation, speed, power and heart rate over time during the activity. This doesn’t allow the user to see average power over time during the activity — e.g. are you maintaining average power, increasing or decreasing? An athlete may wish to specifically show increasing average power for example and the chart would enable them to see if this goal was achieved.

Yes, but you are posting on the forum "Garmin Connect Web", and there it is available.
... and on the app, you can select a section of the desired duration (i.e. 5 min), and the avg Power is then shown in the tooltip, You can slide across the chart with the two fingers to see how the average is changing.
It appears as though this forum is for both the web and the app. At least that's what it shows at the top of the screen for me. Appreciate the dialogue and assistance.
Thanks for pointing that out, I never knew that was available. That still doesn't provide a rolling average of the power during the ride from beginning to end. Again, thanks for engaging.

But that still isn't what op is asking for, right?
I think op wants average power over time, so that each data point on the graph represents average power at that point in time.
Hopefully I'm not missing something, but doesn't that dropdown simply enable the display of the maximum rolling average power as a value next to the dropdown? After all, while one technically could graph the max average power - or max of any metric, it would kind of be a strange thing to graph - the graph could only ever stay flat or increase.
I think one possibility would be to use a Connect IQ data field app that independently calculates rolling average power, displays it as a data field, and writes it to the activity FIT file so it shows up as a graph in the activity when you look at it in Connect (the app or website).
I actually already have an app that should be able to do this. It's a flexible app that allows you to enter formula to determine what it displays, kinda like Excel for your watch.
The only hurdle is that the calculation of rolling average power in real time takes a lot of memory (for a CIQ app), so the feasibility of this depends on a couple of things:
- Which device do you have?
- How big does the rolling average window have to be? (e.g. 5 minutes or 20 minutes)
Yes, you are correct, looking for a line chart that shows average power at that point in time, over time, throughout the duration of the activity. Such data not available currently.
I have the Edge 830 cycling computer.
