New trainingplans - unable to have more than one!!

I'm now unable to use trainingplans for my training anymore.

Since I'm both Running and Cycling and Garmin have changed the trainingplans so that you only can have one, I'm unable to have both a trainingplans for running and cycling Disappointed

Please rollback to the previous mode, when we could have both running- and cyclingplans (and triatlon)

  • The 5K plan have been there since 2019

Why it is called "2024 5k" then? Yes, there are and indeed always were several 5k running plans - one adaptive Coach Plan for 5k, and four Self-Guided 5k plans, but none of them is called "2024 5k". I am sure that yours is the new type (DSW-based) plan available only for devices with the Race Widget, as I already wrote. You cannot use several of them simultaneously.

  • If I plan it in 2024 it is named 2024 5k, if I plan it in 2025 it is named 2025 5k.

All my Completed plans have also changed name to this standard (looked like yours a month ago):

If I delete all plans and choose any plan (yes I've tested them all), same behavior, so your assumtion does not make sense.

  • If I plan it in 2024 it is named 2024 5k, if I plan it in 2025 it is named 2025 5k.

Those are then not the classical plans, since those do not change the name when scheduled.

Do you still have any of those three adaptive Coach Plans with the photos, and the true coach names to select from? And do you still have any of those 28 Self-Guided Plans? If you have none of them, then you only have the new DSW-based plans, and those (currently) cannot be combined. I would tell that a triathlon plan with a triathlon race as the goal should do the trick and offer you workouts for both running and cycling, but since I do not own a watch supporting the Race Widget, I cannot test it.

In any case, if you have doubts about what I am telling, I recommend reaching out to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com and asking them directly. Use the Phone or Chat options for an instant response. Email exchanges usually take a few days.

  • It IS the classic plans! The behavior is changed!

The 28 self-guided plans are the ones changing name. As I've tried to point out a couple of times now.

I have a Multisport event planed but the event don't appear in the list of events when choosing a DSW-based plan. Only running or bike events does.

Support is not easy anymore. Garmin have closed the support center in Norway, so we are unable to Chat with them, and when calling we're redirected to Denmark support center and the answertime is 30min+. A sad story. Garmin Norway was very god in handling support, and very short answer time.

  • I have got confirmation from Garmin Support that they have changed the training plan behaviour when implementing the new Garmin Coach training plans. So now it’s impossible to have more than one training plan, regardless if you have a self-guided training plan or a dynamic plan.

  • do you know by any chance if there are future changes planned? I'd like to have to of the modern plans, one for running and one for strength/HIIT which is not possible actually as there are no self-guided strength/HIIT training plans.

  • I’ve asked Garmin support about this but they haven’t answered See no evil

  • Hey man - did you manage to figure this out?

I also noticed before I could run two plans at once.

I have FR965 and edge 530 - Id love to add a cycling plan to my edge 530, and running plan to my 965.

Before it was possible yes, I guess it just shows up as a mess on your watch and calendar everyday and maybe Garmin wanted to streamline it?

    Any update on that?

  • So now it’s impossible to have more than one training plan, regardless if you have a self-guided training plan or a dynamic plan.

There's a workaround to have more than one training plan, but only for the old dynamic/adaptive plans (associated with a human coach) and/or the self-guided training plans. This does not work with new Garmin Coach plans.

You do need to use the Garmin Connect website, and not the app, to set up the plans.

This workaround lets you select 1 old adaptive plan, along with 1 or more self-guided plans.

TL;DR you have to select, but not finalize/submit, each plan in a different browser tab. Once you've selected the plans you want, you can finalize all of them.

(I just tried this workaround now, and it still works)

  • Garmin Support confirmed that after changing the Garmin Coach plans early autumn last year (2024), this is as designed. But probably you need to have a device supporting the new plans before this behaviour kicks in.
