Average HR, Speed, etc for sections of a ride?

In the good old days when Garmin had their own Windows desktop application that allowed you to do analysis on sections of the ride to get averages, etc without the need to keep hitting the lap button....

Is there anything like this on Garmin Connect that would allow dynamic recalculation of this sort of data based upon my selection post ride?

  • Since it it not very easy to do this basic function and then my further need for me to be able to load multiple rides for comparison.... All which were standard analysis functions in Garmin Training Centre I will go find an old copy and install it on to a VM to get the required functionality and then decide if I create my own service for this.

  • Thanks for digging into this for me

  • I have just tried with GC Mobile. In its menu » Training » Segments, I click the menu symbol up right, and there I can activate Garmin an/or Strava Segments. So make sure the Garmin Segments are on. I haven't seen these option on GC Web, but perhaps I just did not look well enough.

This is the standard way it works in GC too. As I wrote, I use it since months. However, if you prefer GTC, just go ahead. Just wanted to help, but I feel like if I were harassing you

  • Hi trux,

Didn't feel harassed, was glad to seek second opinion and help with this.

I'm a very long term Garmin Edge and Forerunner user, and preferred the old Training Centre software for the analytics. However itbis no longer available or supported by Garmin, much to a lot of Garmin old-timers like me.

So your guidance on trying to seek this functionality I used previously was useful. I didn't want to spend too much time reinventing the wheel if the functionality was already there but hidden/buried from my normal usage.

So thanks for all your diving around and persistence.

    Many thanks

Martith, I'm looking for the same feature in garmin connect or express but I could not  find it, could you please tell me which third party do you use in order to get the section analysis if you found one? Would be a great if garmin would enable this in future updates.

You do not need any 3rd party tool. Use the built-in Trim function (see it in the cogwheel menu on the activity page). You can trim, restore, and retrim the activity as many times as you wish, and see the totals and averages to any section you wish. You can trim sections by distance, as well as by time.

Thx, Trux for your prompt answer.

It looks like if you trim you are going to loose the rest of the activity and just keep the trimmed part, I definitely don't want that what I want is the possibility to analyse a custom part of the training and keep the rest as well. Just as Martith said

Here is a screenshot from the good old suunto app, if they can do it I'm sore Garmin can too.

Until then I'm interested in suggestions of a third party website which can do this with garmin files.

No, as I wrote, you can revert to the original, or trim it again without any limitation. The Trim function is doing essentialy the same thing as on your screenshot from the Suunto app.

Too complicated man, don't like this back and forth reverting. It shows just the pace no HR or other layers simultaneously, the trim is a workaround, the function was clearly not made for what I'm intending.
