Corrupt FIT File Repair Requests

Former Member
Former Member

Hi,

I would like to load this file into any software, but all of them tell me that it cannot be imported.
For some reason the file is not working (the watch ran out of battery while it was tracking the hike), but I would really like to have it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

  • Thanks! It did import the file. However, I still don't understand what is wrong with the original file(s). On Suunto forums I was asked to ask on Garmin forums :)

are you going to provide the previous suggested test files ?

my guess is going towards the developer data Wink (FIT 2.0 vs FIT 1.0) ?

fit file structure is nothing wrong, what I can see

  • I tried re-importing a file which worked before and it failed this time, so it looks like something has changed on the Garmin Connect side. I will try a few runs with/-out GPS and with HR data on and off, on the other hand I don't really understand how to enable/disable developer data.

you did first delete the existing activity ?

  • No, it doesn't.

On re-importing: usually in such cases I had a 'duplicate' error, this time the same generic message: 'An error occurred with your upload. Please try again.' that I've been getting recently.

I did a swimming session today, no HR, no GPS. Still the same. I'm about to give up Slight smile and stop exporting to GC. I won't be able to figure out where the error lies.

    Anyway, thanks!

  • Is it normal that when you repair a fit file that none of the GPS data can be seen on the map?

I couldn't upload today's workout, due to a corrupt .fit file. Tried the http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/ tool, but it returned a file that only contained ~2 mins of activity (it should be 47 min). Would really appreciate it if anyone can repair the file. Thanks!

hi, sorry to hear about your mishap with the forerunner 10

    • the repair from kiesewetter is correct

you could scan your watch with a recovery tool

    for PC

    • Recuva
    • Bitwar

    for Mac

    • Disk Drill
    • Data Rescue 5
    • Photorec
    • Testdisk

run your recovered file through Fit File Tool's section remover

import this fit file manual from within Garmin Connect Web

    when this fails

with your consent we can have a look at your file with FitFileRepairTool

zip the fit file and upload here in the forum

or provide a link to it on a cloud storage

    or send via pm

Thanks for the reply. I have tried to scan the watch with Recuva, but it doesn't find any deleted files. I also ran chkdsk on the file system, but no errors were found. There is more than 1MB left of free space (just a few activities are stored), so I don't think that should be an issue. I have no idea how the .fit file got corrupted, but the workout is shown correctly on the watch when I access the "History "- "Runs" menu. Just hope it will not happen again.
