Manual activity syncs with heart rate data

At the moment, if you create a historic manual activity, the activity does not include heart rate data, even if heart rate data was recorded during the time that activity was taking place.

So if, for example, you go for a run and forget to start your device, although you may have been capturing HR data and it's displayed in Connect within your "all day HR" data field, if you create a manual Run activity when you get home, Connect doesn't sync the HR data that was captured with the newly created activity.

It would be great if manually created activities pulled in the recorded HR data that was captured during the activity period. Hope this makes sense!?
  • Ran into this frustrating limitation this morning. I was out cycling and had to take a break so I left my activity on resume later. For some reason when I started going again I didn’t activate the tracking properly and rode for another 10km without logging anything. I was thinking, no big deal, I will record a manual activity, only to realize that Connect isn’t smart enough to relate the recorded HR data with the activity. Worse yet, no heads up of any kind that the watch was just idling while I was riding hard. For such a premium fitness tracking device this is very poor and desperately needs to be fixed.

Completely agree. I used to have a Fitbit and even they had this feature... It's so straightforward - I thought Garmin watches were supposed to be "smarter"....

I agree. This is very frustrating. I’m quite disappointed Garmin doesn’t have this sorted out given the cost of the watch.

  • This is the one! Used to have a Fitbit and it'd retroactively add HR data if you didn't start the clock when you were doing activity. This was back in 2015. My Garmin watch is far far smarter than my FitBit HR in every way other than this and it's mad in 2020 this isn't a feature. @Garmin SORT IT OUT PLEASE

  • This question was posted 2 years ago and nothing came up since then, any update about this sync feature?

Found the same issue on Garmin Fenix 6

  • Another +1 for a function that should be native. I've just forgot to start an activity after launching it and had to add it manually, but no HR syncing Disappointed

A chance that my fitness app is giving me some calories informations to add even if it's not as accurate with HR.

The Calories are being added to your daily totals, regardless whether you start an activity or not

Yes, but if it isn't tracking the HR at the time because the activity is added manually, then how can the calories being counted correctly?

As long as you wear the watch, the HR is monitored permanently. See the daily HR graph for example at

  • What trux said is true when the watch (like my Fenix 6) is tracking all day long HR, but we won't have the specific cal burned during this activity.
