Turn the Fitbit Import back on

About 2 weeks ago, Fitbit changed how their data could be exported and Garmin quickly switched off the import of .csv and .xls files that came from Fitbit. Fitbit have now restored the option to export their data in the same format as before (as well as providing a much rich set of data as an alternative). Could you turn back on the Fitbit import feature you had before? It would be really useful and should be a very quick change.

Longer term, it would be great if you also import the richer data (minute by minute heart rates / calories / distance) data that Fitbit now provide. I understand that it more of a task!

Many thanks
  • That sounds fair enough, i mean if you really want the fitbit data why not view it on the fitbit equivalent to garmin connect
  • I think (could be wrong) the OP wanted a one stop location for all their activities.

So if he has a fitbit why not use their site if that's the case, its just that i can never understand why folk expect a competitors devices to be supported, i mean i wouldn't expect the fitbit site to support my garmin devices, somewhere like strava is different as they don't produce their own devices
  • I am 'upgrading' from a fitbit to a Garmin (getting a Fenix 5 plus for Christmas) and wanted to move old calorie and other data over so I could migrate away from Fitbit. I cannot import in November's stats (and nor can I manually enter them into Garmin Connect even though I have the numbers here). For Garmin, it is a good way to help customers to migrate and so makes good sense.

As this feature was available until mid-November, it was clearly something Garmin thought was valuable to them and they only stopped it when Fitbit changed their export format.
  • ok i know it isn't ideal but can you export from fitbit to somewhere like strava, then export from there to garmin

Aware of that page. The red text at the top is what prompted me to write this feature request. It should work again now as described on this page if Garmin were to switch the functionality back on.

Thanks Martinr2, that imports in the activities. What I want to do is import in the steps taken and calories burnt - can't do that via Strava, Tapariik, Fitnesssyncer or any other service as far as I am aware

I believe the OP has or is getting a Garmin device.

  • Hello, I totally support the OP.

Fitbit changed it's export procedure, short after Garmin drop the procedure to import from fitbit.
After that, Fitbit restore the old way to export.

    Garmin says:
November 13th 2018: Please be aware that the below option to import Fitbit data into Garmin Connect is currently unavailable. Garmin is working on a potential solution to this issue and will update this FAQ as we learn more.

Yeah Garmin ! many thanks ! But today, the old fitbit export procedure is back, so you can put the old import procedure back too...

I own an Aria weight scale that works nicely since many years. But I drop my fitbit podometer and replaced it by a vivoactive 3.
I want to import the weight data on my garmin account, I want to have all my data on the garmin app.
