As you said, it's the day and age of the smart phone, so most people's handsets are capable of receiving e-mail and being notifications for new incoming mail messages. Using SMS for notification is therefore…
I agree with everyone that thinks is just dumb dumb dumb , ridiculous and annoying that Garmin does not support notification via text/sms, whatever. I would love to use LiveTrack, but I dont because…
I don't use Facebook or Twitter myself, but it's easy to see that e-mail, Twitter and Facebook are all Internet-based services, while SMS isn't. Since the LiveTrack notification (which includes a link…
Hey Garmin, this FOUR year old feature request, backed up by many other users is still a real need. Will you guys ever address it?
Will you guys ever address it?
This is primarily a user forum for the mutual help. Most likely nobody from Garmin ever saw this thread, so if you want that they address it, speak directly to the Support, or suggest your idea throught the form designed for that purpose: https://www.garmin.com/forms/ideas/.
Still, using the SMS for sharing a link, seems to be to me more outdated than using the email. Everyone who has a smartphone, has a mailbox, and can receive emails on the phone, so I really do not understand what the problem is with it. And I guess that for exactly the same reason, such request won't get any high on the priority list at Garmin either.
Ah, wrong forum for help from Garmin... thanks for letting me know.
Yep, I've got email on my phone, too. But I hate using it there. I do email on my computer. Clearly, from the number of comments on this issue, I'm not the only one who would really like SMS capability. Why shame me for the way I want to use my tech? I suppose neither method is "outdated," but one is certainly older than the other.

Sorry, I did not shame you, or anyone else. I was just referring to the opening post, where the sharing by email was called "antiquated". You have the full right to request any method you wish, just as I told, do not expect any reaction from Garmin, if you did not tell them directly. And even then, I suspect that it may stay low on the priority list - from the point of usaibility there is no significant difference between opening an email or opening an SMS.
Wow looked at this forum 4 years ago and it's still a feature I need. Friend and family never check their mails. Every time I need the text them the link. It's so frustrating.
The feature is already on Live Event Sharing, it can not be so hard to copy the code and ad it to livetrack.
I like (/s) how folks replying to this post derailed the main point of this person's post by arguing about what means of communication is more antiquated vs. others.
Folks are allowed to use different forms of communication, "antiquated" or not. I would love for garmin to allow us to send notifications in the common ones.
fax? Probably not.
I agree totally. Just had this discussion with wife who would definitely prefer an SMS notification.
This is a work-around since it seems that this request has been around for a while.
I have friends who have their live-track notification emailed to me and I created an email filter (I use gmail) to automatically forward that email to me as a text message. (some guidance on creating an email filter https://support.google.com/mail/answer/6579?hl=en#zippy=) You can essentially email a cellphone number and it'll show up as a text message by emailing ##########@carrier-gateway-addres as listed here: https://www.wikihow.com/Send-a-Text-from-Email
I am amazed that after 6 years Garmin still does not support sending Live Track notifications via text message. My wife has email notifications on her phone turned off. If she didn’t, she would be harassed every 5 minutes with all the junk e-mail she receives. I suspect she is not alone in this regard. So for folks like us, e-mail notifications are useless.
