Strange lack of certain indoor activities in Garmin Connect

Hi, I have a FR 235, it is a pretty pure running watch and only has run/run indoors/bike/bike indoors/other as possible activities. That is fine, if I do something else, I can just use "other" and then change it in the GC portal (I use the website). However, I have found that the activities that are available there are strangely lacking in ANYTHING that would be like HIIT, crossfit, kettlebell, aerobics workout etc. The only things I get are different types of running/biking/walking/strength training (using machines) and then a bunch of much more obscure activities like wingsuit flying... It seems so strange to me that ALL those indoor activities would be missing from the Activity type list, that I just have to ask you if I am missing something.
I know the "other/wo GPS" activity in my FR only records HR and time, but it would be good to be able to catergorise these activities. I don´t mind if all of those activities are not available in GC, any one of them would be ok. If they really all are supposed to be missing it is really weird, but I will have to live with it.

Hmm ok that kind of makes sense, I guess although it feels like an unnecessary restriction. Also, I also have data from a Vivofit, and the options for that are exactly the same. You'd think that with an activity band like that, someone would use it for indoor workouts.

The list of available activity types in Garmin Connect is the same regardless of what device (if any) you have registered with your Connect account.
  • Well there are differences, for example at the moment I have completely different options to the ones listed by Zorgzor.

Zorgzor listed - and I quote:

    running/biking/walking/strength training ... wingsuit flying

Which of them are missing from your list?

Formerly I used an FR310XT, then I switched to the FR735XT. The list of available activity types in Garmin Connect remained the same. Better yet, I have another Garmin Connect account which I use for various tests, and I do not have ANY device associated with this account, and yet the activity type list is still the same.
  • I tested with 2 FIT files: one containing sport "fitness_equipment", subsport "elliptical" (which is in the list), and that shows up with the specified sport/subsport. Another with sport "generic", subsport "pilates" shows up as "other".
Seems you can't import or edit a sport type that is not on the list.
The FIT files were originally from a Fenix 3 and re-written to contain these sport types.
If Connect decides which sports types to present based on the device type, a Fenix 3 does not support pilates.
Maybe there are other devices that are flagged as being capable of recording "aerobics" and similar sports.

    That is correct.

From what I see Connect web site does not decide which sport types to present. "Elliptical" is on the list and "Pilates" is not no matter what device you have, or if you have any at all (yes, you can have a functioning connect account WITHOUT ANY DEVICE).

Maybe there are other devices that are flagged as being capable of recording "aerobics" and similar sports.

Doesn't matter. When selecting activity type in Garmin Connect (for activity downloaded from watch or manually created one) you still have the same list.
  • You can add some activities to a f235 with Connect IQ apps. I happen to know of ones for Hiking and Walking :) , but you'll find other activities in the app store.
  • TMK2: You're right, the list (including "wingsuit flying") remains the same even if the device is a Garmin Swim.

Yes, but this will not add them to the list of available activity types in Garmin Connect. And the original post was about activity types missing from Garmin Connect and not the device itself.
