Uploading Workout to Garmin Connect

Does anyone know if its possible to upload Workout data (FIT or TCX) to Garmin Connect, for later sending to a device?

We're (https://trainasone.com/) generating custom workouts and our Garmin using runner love being able to run the steps to pace or heartrate range, but would like to be able to download from us and upload direct into Garmin Connect and then send wirelessly to their watches.

On a related note, I noticed that TCX has a ScheduledOn for WorkoutT, but I cannot find anything similar for FIT?

(Those on older devices have even more fun as they need to download the TCX workout from us and then use Training Center to copy it across :)

Thanks

David
  • I am not aware of any company that has the ability to inject Workouts to GC so I don't consider it strange that TaO and Endomondo do not.
  • I've just signed up for TrainAsOne and was looking to see if GC had an underlying REST api I could use to poke the plans generated in to my Garmin without having to faff about with the USB cable :D It's a shame there's nothing there (at least, nothing documented), I'm on a VA3M which means the app to download direct to watch won't work for me :(

We'd love to be able to send generated workout files to Garmin. Currently the only method appears to be by creating a workout description via connect.garmin.com.

Technically that could be automated, but it would involve building something to interact with Garmin's web interface, and needing reworking any time the UI changed. It would also need access to the user's password (which takes it deep into Bad Idea Bear territory), and would likely violate Garmin's T&Cs. So, not an option :/

However, as a VA3M owner, you can contact Garmin and indicate you want Workout PersistedContent support (as I understand it there are other PersistedContent features the VA3M would not be able to easily support, but Workout PersistedContent should be possible).

I will definitely do that. The Garmin Coach widget is capable of doing exactly this so I suspect it's already there in the watch, but is not in the public API
