Can't Share Garmin Connect 'Workouts' to friends or groups.

I write turbo training workouts for our cycle club into the 'Workouts' section of my Garmin Connect account. At the moment, the only way I know of sharing them is to send out a copy of the .fit file from the 'workouts' folder on my Garmin 1000, but would LOVE to be able to share them within our Garmin Connect Members group or to my 'connections', in the same way that you can courses. 'Connections' could then send it to their device.
Perhaps if anyone else thinks this would be a valuable addition to Garmin Connect, they might also suggest this to Garmin via the ideas page ;) http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/
If anyone knows of a better way of sharing that is currently available, PLEASE let me know :D
Garmin UK support told me that I just had to send out a web link to the workout page in Garmin Connect (to any on my 'connections') but that doesn't work, giving an error saying that 'it looks as though you don't have access privileges to view this file'. Sadly, the UK help desk do seem rather inexperienced when it comes to providing help on such things :( .
  • It's 13 1/2 months since I created the original post - :(:(:( - very, very sad - is no one listening?
  • @v1sionmaster: Listening, or even actually considering the request that has been received and correctly parsed, and being prepared to take action to accommodate are different things that are logically separate.
  • Indeed we are more than 13 months further and Garmin is still not offering the service to share workouts in an easy way. The best way to do this is offering the opportunity to give your workouts a public status and share the link of the workout (like you can do with courses). The public status should not be that difficult! And the advantage for Garmin is that not everybody needs to make his own workout and this will save old fashioned disk space. Garmin show what you can, it is not that difficult :)

I'm using the philipshambrook workaround to share my workouts. Disadvantage I have to send the fit files to all people.
  • Would not be surprised if this is a point of contention between garmin and their partners. Am sure that enabling this relatively simple feature would impact relations with vendors like trainingpeaks.

or is this on the roadmap garmin?
  • Wow, so much surprised you can't share custom made workout!! Why? Something small would increase community engagement why we can't exports and important workouts!!

  • 6. How can my friend copy the workout to Garmin Connect from the watch ?

  • How can my friend copy the workout to Garmin Connect from the watch ?

If you mean copying from your watch, then in the following way:

    1. Connect to the watch with the USB cable, open the directory //GARMIN/Workouts and send the workout you want to share, to your friend

    2. You friend connects to his watch with USB cable and copies the file to the folder //GARMIN/Workouts

It means he does not copy it to Garmin Connect, but rather directly to the watch

  • When you share a workout using the .fit workout file from The Garmin Edge Computer, does that take the screens with it or do you have do send them across too ... and if so ... does anyone know how.

  • Not sure what screens you mean. A workout is more or less a list of exercises. Yes, some exercises (i.e. in yoga) may include links to short videos, and those links should be preserved in the fit file, but the counterpart has to have a device compatible with that type of workout.

  • Hi trux

‘’thanks for your response..l meant the activity individual profile screens with their respective data fields. As I don’t have a power meter, I rely on setting targets within heart rate zones whilst checking that that heart rate is achieved by keeping at a sensible cadence .... does that make sense?
