I got a PB for a 5K run today, my previous PB was for an exactly 5K run, Todays run was 5.37k. The PB for 5k has not changed even though i took of 30secs is this normal?

When you run more than 5km, your Garmin running watch will look for the fastest stretch of 5km within that tracked activity, and use it as the basis for determining if you have a personal record.

You may not be confused, but incorrect generalisations like this are not helpful. Your statement is only true for SOME watches. As the OP does not state which device he/she is using you may well be giving him/her false expectations.

It is obvious from many of the discussion threads on "Personal Records" that a significant number of people use devices that do not extract records from longer activities and it is misleading to state "your Garmin running watch will look for the fastest stretches".

I'm pretty sure I conceded that I wasn't previously aware that the statement didn't hold true for the Forerunner 310XT, thank you.

He/she did afterwards – and his/her device is not a Garmin running watch, so my earlier statement turned out to be irrelevant in his/her case anyway, and therefore there should be no false expectations arising from it.

I think that the fact that we are now on page 3 of this thread suggests that the situation re personal records was not clear to all contributors. Why you have taken offence at the word "confused" I have no idea but I think it describes the general level of understanding/knowledge demonstrated by contributors. Even you admit that you have gained some new information from the contributions.
