Garmin Connect & iOS8

Recently I upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 8. Then I discovered that Garmin Connect did not work so well. Sync is alright. But afterwards it took more than 10-15 minutes to update GPS data. I had my fenix 2 hard reset but problem still exists.

So I wonder if there is some problem between the Connect app and iOS8. And Garmin, please update the app if that is the case. Thank you.

After a hard reset (asked by the support for a too much long GPS fix time compared with other Fenix 2 i can see), i can no longer have a bluetooth connection with my iPhone 5 on iOS8. I can pair Fenix 2 and iPhone once but synch doesn't work anymore. It worked before the hard reset.
  • It seems that there are some problems with Garmin Connect / IOS 8 compatibility. I also noticed that sometimes it 'hangs' during GPS data update but sometimes it goes fast.
I also noticed that when you allow Garmin Connect to use GPS data it uses it all the time, even when switched off (the GPS icon is on constantly). Of course it drains battery :o

I guess we have to wait for some new update.

Also having same problem. Bought watch last week. While my activity results appear on the Garmin connect mobile app, the watch is still on "Updating GPS Data" Mode for close to 6 hours and counting! I see the posts so far have no answer. What can be done to fix this asap? Please keep me posted. Thanks.
  • Forgive me for seeming dim - but *APPLE* made the iOS8 software... you guys (posters) did the update to your Apple device and it's somehow Garmin's problem that it no longer works like it did in IOS7?

Yep and it is Garmin's problem! The onus is on developers to update their own software to be compatible with whatever phones they state compatibility for.

It's always been like this. It would be an absurd inference to suggest that Apple (or any OS) should have to test and build their new software for and around every single App out there.

Anyway. iOS8 has only been out briefly, and it's good that users are finding bugs and reporting it. It'll help the devs at Garmin patch things up faster. I'd guess we'll see a new patch in the next couple of weeks for this stuff. They have been proving good with the patches - I'm not very happy with my Fenix 2, and the UK support guys are woefully slow and or completely unresponsive - but the software guys have definitely been pulling their weight with the updates.

Problem solved. upgraded from 3.40 version to 4.0 version and now works perfectly fine on IOS 8.

Developers get access to iOS8 beta versions for months before it is released to make sure their apps are ready for it when it is released by Apple ... so yes , You might excuse a small budget software house for being slow off the mark but companies the size of Garmin should get their software ready on time.

That's exactly how it works its not like Apple or any other operating system is introduced overnight. They have a beta period for developers to make sure things work in the OS. And its Garmin's responsibility to make sure it works on all OS.
