I am seeing the same issue.
What is the version number of your GCM app? (see it in menu » Settings » App Info). Mine is 4.55.0.30, and the gear distance is all right - two decimal places, and the right distance.
Also cross check the data on Garmin Connect Web » Gear.

In that case you do not need to fix anything. The data is safe, you just need to wait for the next update of the app, and hope they will fix it there. You could try reinstalling the app. As I wrote, I also use the v4.55.0.30, and the gear mileage looks all right. I am using the metric system, though. You could try temporarily changing the units from statute to metric (or vice versa), and verify whether you experience the same problem with both units.
