Garmin Connect Sync on iOS 11

Since I updated to iOS 11, Garmin Connect Mobile no longer syncs with my Garmin Fenix 5S automatically via Bluetooth. I need to open the GC Connect App, and them manually click on the sync button (or do the same on my watch).

I have iOS 11.3 on an iPhone 10. Garmin Connect worked fine on my previous iPhone with iOS 10.x. Under 10.x the iPhone Bluetooth connections shoed two connects: BLE_Edge_820 and I think I recall the second being Edge_820. With iOS 11.3 I only get BLE_Edge_820 and Garmin Connect tells me I need to pair the phone because it is not connected.
I have read through the forum and tried: Resetting Network Settings, rebooting the phone, removing the device, etc, etc. Nothing seems to make it connect.

Has someone found a solution or is Garmin planning an update to address the issue? Looking for help! It is disappointing that many of the features I value in the Edge can not be used.

Solution found!!! When you change phones (and maybe do an iOS upgrade) goto the Edge, goto Bluetooth Settings, goto Smartphone. Select Smartphone. Select Forget Phone.
Go back to the Home Page. Go to the iPhone, got Bluetooth Settings, if there is a connection to BLE_Edge820, select it and Forget it... Then Pair the phone/Edge. You should see a passcode come up on Edge and iPhone. You should see two connections for the Edge on the iPhone. BLE_Edge820 and BT_Edge820. Done.

Extra Note: If this is a new phone, you may need to add email connect and Recipients to live track on the Garmin Connect Mobile App in order for Live track to work...
  • Any update on this? I still have problems connecting my Fenix 3 and Edge 1000. Usually it solves itself if I wait for a few minutes.
On phone/Bluetooth devices are connected but Garmin Connect App does not recognize they are connected.

Still no change for me. I have a Fenix 3 HR Sapphire Edition running the latest 4.90 firmware and an iPhone 7 running 11.3.1 and still have to manually sync. When i had the VivoActive HR a few years ago with an android phone there was no syncing issue so i'm wondering if iOS handles background apps differently stopping GC to sync? i came to this theory when i tried to use the sync option on the Fenix 3 HR and GC didn't update from the last time i had it open/as the active app.

  • I have noticed this change in behaviour in recent months for my Fenix 5X as well - my activity is no longer automatically uploaded through GC when I complete a run. It does as soon as I start the app on my iPhone though, I have just attributed this to maybe the app getting put to sleep after other apps use up available memory - could be a change introduced in iOS 11.x or maybe the GC app getting more bloated with all those badges and dashboards and all...
