GCM - HealthKit Sync Issues

Hi everyone,

I know there are already a couple of threads on this topic, but I wanted to create an overview of the bugs I have noticed, to check if you have noticed the same, or if I am maybe I am wrong on these points.

  • "Steps" and "Heart Rate" data is written to HealthKit (HK) only on the next day. There is no such delay for the other items, and no reason I can think of why this should be like that, so I assume this is a bug
  • For "Walking + Running Distance", "Active Energy", "Resting Energy", "Flights Climbed" only the current day is written to HK. Past days' data is deleted again when syncing.
  • "Walking + Running Distance" actually contains also cycling distance, and - I assume - all distances from all activities. (This seems to be the same mistake as on the "Step Details" card in GCM - the distance there is confusingly not only related to steps)

Do you agree? Anything I am missing? I have the fenix 3 HR in case this is relevant.

BTW, the FAQ item here does not explain any of these issues.

Thanks,
Lorenzo
  • Is there an official way to file a bug for the Garmin Connect app? I figure many loud voices should help speed the process. Seeing the moderator post it seems they are aware of the issue, but may not realize the full impact of it.

Garmin connect->more->help->opinions or something like that. There is possibility to send information directly to garmin.
I believe they know impact but they are not interested to share data with other applications, which is why I am thinking about changing Fenix 3 to some other device in future. For sure, if they do not change this I will not buy another garmin device, watch, scale or something else.
  • Add me to the list of frustrated users. I will add that in addition to the syncing issues, I am also unable to receive weather data to my watch. GCM clearly has some bugs to be worked out.
  • When will connect get updated to suppprt the newly added swim records in Apple health with iOS 10?
  • I've noticed since trying to sync Garmin activity with Health that calories for activities is always rerouted as 0. This also gets reported as 0 to the Activity app if you're using an Apple Watch. Are others seeing this as well?

Confirmed, though slightly different: Since end of August, when I got my Vivoactive HR, I only have one activity calories data point (data import) and that was yesterday, where I had no activities at all

The Health app sync is a complete mess ... totally unusable!

This is an issue with the decimal position or appears to be. For example I have an activity today where I have used 1,287 calories and this is imported into health as 1.29 calories. At first I assumed that the ',' is being seen as '.' however it is also doing the same with lower quantities. A 151 calorie swim was imported as 0.15.

I think this has been happening for a while, I have only noticed it since watchOS has started including external workouts in the activity rings.

I have reported this via the app and chased it up but have had no response from garmin …
  • New update of the app today with a new fancy icon and new features but NO fix for healtkit sync!

    God work Garmin!

Apple Health seems to have a low prio on Garmin's list ... not astonishing, when I see, that more important things need to be fixed.

Like new features? and ignore all the bugs? YES!

Every other app I have with healtkit sync is working flawless.

I meant bugs. And fixing the Health sync issues doesn't help as long as the sync is as flawed as it is currently, where e.g. every sleep phase gets synced as deep sleep, even when it is an awake phase. And that is only one example.

I'm curious, if the iOS 10 issues are solved now, which should have a higher prio than Health.
